What do you mean head redone? The only thing I had done was I upgraded my valve springs......I also had the head inspected and all the valve stems and guides only cause I had 50k on the car. But for Kelfords 272's or stage 2 style cams all you need is springs and or retainers

You are correct the head does not a rebuild unless there is a serious problem
with the head. Most camshaft companies at the very least will highly recommend
a higher rate spring replacement is needed, but also the retainers should be replaced
as well depending on how much valve lift the cam provides.

you don't need to get the head redone, but the head does have to come apart to put springs in it and off to put the stud and gasket in it. Your kinda already half way there. If you find out how much labor they charge for putting springs and seals in and see if it compares to getting the head rebuilt. We pick up 30cfm from out rebuilds, but certainly not needed. But you need springs!
here is the package we offer for you to compare and see if it's worth it to you

Not sure what he meant by saying that you had to get your head done.
However, installing the springs & or retainers (do both while your at it) is not a simple 1 or 2 hour job. Its rather difficult so leaving it at the shop overnight is not unusual to say the least.
I would clarify exactly what he meant by his statement & make sure they know what they are doing. Have they installed them before in an Evo, etc.
Good luck!

Most shops do not either have the tools to install springs and retainers with the head ON THE CAR or do not know how or want to take the risk of doing it with the head on. There are evom vendors that charge $800 for springs and retainers install.
TTP has the proper tools to do the job with the head ON THE CAR. We charge $275, its fairly time consuming and dual springs and retainers require valve seals to be replaced also.
