Talking Head got decked. Do i need thicker head gasket?

I had my warped head resurfaced. Machine shop took off 8 thousandth.
I am now getting ready for installation and had a few questions.

1. do i need a thicker head gasket now that some material was removed from the head? Should i go with OEM HG?

2. Do i need to do any kind of regapping or remeasurement of the valves?

Any comments/ feedback will be appreciated

Since you have your head off, if you dont alrdy have arp or map headstuds i suggest you do it, oem isnt always the best, it works, but there are better options. Im not sure how much it changes it, but as the HG varies in size, your compression ratio will change as well

Stock cams, it'll be fine. Also won't hurt to get a thicker gasket. The small bump in compression may effect how much timing the motor can handle depending on how on edge your tune is. If the car isn't tuned, I would suggest tuning, as the stock tune knocks pretty bad with the motor stock. But I think that's the max allowable to take off, so that head is done if it needs it again...

Evo 8 or 9?

If it is an evo 8, get the stock evo 9 gasket. It is thicker.

If you are running an evo 9, check out some of MAPs HG selections. I ordered the JE proseal for my build. Seems to be holding just fine.

Thanks for the response guys.
its a 8

Im looking at Cometic head gaskets.
thinking about going 85mm bore and 0.04 thickness since i took off 8 thousandth.

Is the stock bore size 85mm?

Stock bore is 85. If it's .040 compressed, you'll be good.

FWIW the factory spec is .008" between the block and head so you are right at that threshold.

Using a larger hg may not be a bad idea in your case. On stock cams you will probably be fine but down the road it may be a different story.

.002 isn't a big deal here. Won't really have an effect. And if it were to have a small effect, it's in the safe direction of less compression (very slight), and more ptv clearance...

I believe the stock 9 gasket is .042 compressed. The 8 is a little thinner.
