Unhappy 4g63 block problems ...

hey guys,

I've got a 2.3 4g63 on my evo7, the thing is I took off the head to change the gasket to a thicker cometic gasket to lower the cr, I noticed a tiny scratch on no.3 cylinder wall, It can be seen and felt only when I move my finger nail on top of the line

Took the engine apart to check it out, I got new piston rings and now wanna assemble the bottom end, tried to source another block and rebore, but could not find any in the area sadly

what would happen if I reassemble the the short block with the scratch ? blow by ? compression ring seal problems ? My compression was perfect on this cylinder before de assembly

I really don't know what to do now..advice needed

Hopefully you didn't take your engine apart because of the mark at the top of the cylinder bore where the rings don't touch. If you went as far as taking it all apart and getting new rings etc, might as well have a machine shop re-hone it or at the minimum buy yourself one of the DIY ones. Good luck.

Can you hone it out or is it scored so deep that it will change the actual bore?

A bigger question may be: Why is it there? What caused it?

hmm interesting. I just pulled my block. I have a ring land completely broken off and my rings are shot but my cylinder walls still look new.. I wonder what would have caused that?

A hone job won't fix the problem, I just checked with the workshop

I'm gonna change the sleeves locally

i had a similar issue when i had my twin turbo z. if you cannot find another block see if it is possible to have your machine shop sleeve the one cylinder that is damaged.
