About oil change.

Hi, guys I read some threads about How to change oil, but didn't figure out the whole process. I'm going to do my first DIY oil change, kinda scare, so please someone conclude the process for me.

What I understand is:
1: lift the car
2: remove the pan&filter cover
3: drain oil for +10mins(some say +15mins)
4: tighten but not over tighten the drain plug
5: lub the oil filter seal and pre-fill the filter with new oil
6: put filter back on
7pen engine bay, fill the oil to proper level

Did I miss anything so far?? Anything I need to watch out for?

After those steps, I heard from ppl said , we have to reset the computer, mine's a GSR without NAV, is it just simply press the info buttons??

Other than these steps, what else do we need to do?

torque wrench for this, and the other eventual fluid changes (transfer cas, tranny, rear diff) would be good.

As far as time for the oil to drain, just let it go until it is at a very slow drip. If there is a bit of leftover it won't matter when you fill it back up.

When filling up the oil make sure to check it the next day or so, particularly after the motor's been warmed up after a drive and the next day when it is nice and cold. And keep your eyes out for leaks!

It is really easy, so don't be scared. The other fluids are also very easy - the only difference being lack of a nice top-side filling point. Get a nice fluid pump and you're good to go, though.

I just reuse the crush washer if I can't find one, otherwise buy a couple from the dealer and keep it in a handy place (which i never do). Read in the manual to change filter every other oil change, so that's what I do.

I loosen the oil cap on the motor first, then loosen the plug with a wrench and slowly unscrew it by hand while pressing down on it. Keeps the oil from flying out initially all over the place. Then just catch it in one of those 3 gallon poland spring jugs with a funnel.

Jacking the front up real far gets more of it to drain back. Last time I did it I went inside the house to finish up a couple of chores for like half an hour but I think 10 min oughta do it.

Driving the front end of the car on ramps is much easier than jacking it up, plus since the drain plug faces the rear, having the front end of the car up drains the engine oil at the perfect angle.

Looks good man. Just remember to double check everything before you let the car back down. Start it before you check your oil after you add the oil. Make sure you check the oil on a flat surface to prevent from under/over filling. You'll be fine though.

forget filling the filter first. just put a little on the seal and screw it in. trust me. i always think about the guys that fill and climb under the car to find the threads and thread it in without it tipping or spilling.

another good tip is to get a big cardboard box and flatten it and put that under the oil drain pan along with a plastic trash bag. just in case you spill, which you will.
