Making a Mod lineup

So after reading several of the forums on where to start I wanted to setup a line of and run it by the forums to see if maybe I am doing something out of order. I am trying not to spend a ton of money right now. Here is what I came up with.

1. Walbro 255 Fuel pump
2. Hallman Pro MBC
3. Drop in Air filter (K & N)
4. Tune

Those seem like good starting options and they appear to be cheap.

After that I assume a TBE would be the next step, and possibly Greddy Profec b-spec 2 to compliment my Greddy Turbo Timer.

Yes or no? or am I way off.

Breathing mods (to me anyways) always are a better way to start.

This is the order I bought my mods...

1. Apexi GT Spec catback
2. Cobb downpipe and test pipe
3. AEM wideband and AEM tru boost cobtroller
4. reflash
5. Muse lower intercooler pipe

Do yourself and your pocket a favor. Do it right the first time and save your money and buy waht you want. If your doing it cheap, more than likely your gonna do it over cause your settling at the momnet cause it is cheap.

I didn't need a tune for the lower ic pipe so now I have cams, 02 housing, 1000cc injectors, and a fuel pump that will go in soon. Then I'll get a tune again for E85.

Do your mods to where your not having to get retuned after every one is added. Tuning alone can and will be the most expensive part if you go about it the way your doing it. Evo 9's don't need a fuel pump as soon as 8's do. My car spikes 24psi right now and its fine on the stock fuel pump.

Listen to the guy. Getting retuned after you get each mod is expensive. Just save up and install all them at once so you can get one tune.

There are 2 great threads on how to mod - one is $100 at a time, the other is the how-to (newbies to modding).

Read, follow, go faster.

My buddy tunes my car so its not near as expensive, but I still do it that way cause just having to tune it is a hassle with a schedule like mine.

JustJeff, I would do a full exhaust first. Then I would do a intake of your choice. Doing those mods, you can drive around without any ill effects. Then I would buy a boost controller and have it tuned after the boost controller is installed. Just with a exhaust, intake, boost controller, and a tune your car will wake up and be a totally different car.

No reason to buy a Hallman and then buy a Profec later. Buy one or the other. You don't need the Profec to compliment the Greddy turbo timer. Unless you already have the turbo timer, I wouldn't buy that either.

Alright,

The guy before my put the Turbo Timer onthe car, and I was having a hard time deciding on what kind of boost controller to get. Still am. I read both those other forums and came up with the above to start - but based it off expenses. I know Full exahust can be expensive. Same thing with Intake. But if that is the real route to start, I will just have to suck it up.

Call Buschur Racing theyll set you up with great quality parts and down the right path.

Idk what your looking to spend or hp goals are but buschur stage 1 with a fuel pump might be a good start.
Or save up for a little then do a Buschur stage 1-5 build should net you a reliable 11 second dd car.

I know you say you've researched, but do some more as far as what downpipes will fit a 9. Alot of brands say they will fit both, but really they fit the 8 perfect and the 9 if you don't want to run your cross bars underneath. I bought a Helix dp and it fit like crap. So bad that the crossbars couldn't be used. The Cobb I have came with some small spacers and it fits great.

Test pipes are pretty cheap, but some get up there in price due to the name really.

Cat backs range from $450 (maybe lower) to $3000. My GT-Spec cost me $600 and now Gruppe-S sells them for $500 shipped. Its a nice quality exhaust, but can be loud. I don't mind it though since I don't daily my car.

My Apexi intake is just the filter and the bracket. I bought it for $80 slightly used, but they go for about $110 new. Check out the Perrin as well. I think its pretty cheap too. You don't have to spend $250 or more on a intake if you don't want to.

Based on what I want out of my car. I am thinking the best bet is to Get a Perrin Filter - no pipping. Full Turboback exhaust with Testpipe. Boost controller, most likey will go with Profec, but Hallman is still an option. Add Walbro Fuel pump and LICP and be done.

Jeff, i sent you a PM.

You definitely don't want a testpipe, your family is going to hate how loud your exhaust is and the smell a test pipe leaves. If you are only looking at doing minor mods like this, the smell and sound are definitely not going to be worth the gains.

I have a K&N filter I will sell for cheap if you want it pm me. I like your mod list so far, but I would add in an exhaust with o2 housing and LICP then tune. This will add a great hp increase you will feel

I'd suggest a panel filter, TBE, MBC, and a tune. If you can swing it, an upgraded FMIC can do volumes for consistency and give tuning more leverage. A IX doesn't really need a fuel pump and this level, and the gains from other bolt-ons aren't very impressive at this stage. Good luck.
