I was in the garage today and thought I heard something coming from the engine...so I was in neutral with the clutch pushed in and rev'd the engine a couple of times quickly to about 4/5 thousand rpms and then backed off. As it turned out it was nothing but my question is...boost wouldn't go past 0 on the gauge. Will the EVO not build boost unless the car is moving? I have all the stock boost controls and when I am driving boost is fine. Just curious as I never noticed that before. I used to own a SRT-4 and I could of sworn if you rev'd the engine in neutral it would build boost on the gauge.

 

The guage was wrong. You need a load on the engine to build any significant boost. This can be done with a rev limiter.

it's not that the gauge was wrong, it depends on the engine and turbo size.
Put your stock turbo on a Mustangs and watch how much boost it builds at idle. lol

Also to add, my evo will actually build about 3-4psi if I snap the throttle to 4-5k. It'll build like 6-7 off launch control.
