Post Black or Red turbo??

Hey guys,

Im wondering if somebody could recommend me which turbo should I choose red or Black.

I had in my car:
Act cluth
272 kelford Cams
Invida Cat and test pip
turbo xs Down pip
750 Rc injectors
Injen down and upper pip
Injen Intake
HKS Filter
walbro 255 fuel pump
Defi boost guage
oil catch can
Hallman Manual Boost controller
Stock evo 8 turbo
Stock intercooler

I tune my car and i made 330whp at 23 psi.
Know im planning for going for bigger turbo and intercooler.

If wait times are no issue for you, get the Black. If you need to have it instantly, get the Red. You will need to get new injectors with the Black.

I would recommend going with the Black. The power and ease of a bolt-on turbo is fantastic. Makes great power and has pretty quick spool time. In either case I would recommend upgrading the intercooler and if you go with the Black getting new injectors as well.

I was going to go with a red but now I'm going with the black. I'm just worried about my internals. I will be at least 500whp on a dynojet. I think with the black the torque will come on later so it will be safer on the rods. Correct me if I'm wrong

you need to add some stuff to that list first hommie before any turbo upgrade.

walbro 255 fuel pump
boost guage
wideband guage
1000cc injectors or higher
3.5 Intercooler
megan or ebay ported SS o2 housing

that stuff first and since your putting anew turbo on then get your exhaust manifold ported as well. dont forget the hotside of turbo ported since its off. Then you can get the black or the red. If you want to keep the injen intake get a reducer silcone hose from TTP like i did 38 shipped for it. I would say go black if money is no concern. if so go red as you can get the 64mm version off the forums for 1200-1400 as people continue to sell them dirt cheap.

not really depends on how they tune the car. the tq should be high as its a stock frame turbo but again its all in the tuning

I would run the black, but I am slightly biased as I have one myself. They are a great turbo. At 27psi I am making 458/383 on a mustang dyno. Once I build my bottom end, the boost is going up and 550 will be easily achieved.

now and days i would only get the red if you never planned on more then 500 whp and you did not want to spend 2000 dollars for a turbo upgrade. I mean thats some serious coin. LOL you can get a built head and almost get a built shortblock lol. again reds are going for 1200-1400 and in some cases you can get the 80mm version for 1500. there is that guy whiter selling his brand new black +install kit for 1800 shipped he is including a 18psi wastegate which i would get the 25psi wastegate but again its a great price if your ready to pull the trigger NOW

I don't see why wait times would be an issue since they are in stock. I agree with everyone else, get the supporting mods that Rockman listed and then get the turbo of your choice. Also, if you guys look at the tests ER did with the RED vs BLACK you will see that the Black actually made more torque than the Red.

yup for stockie internals. LOL but you should really be ready or already saving for a built bottom end. The turbo is truely designed for higher boost then 30psi should be 35psi+ which the stocker cant handle much of. I personally would rather not even bolt this turbo up till you got a built bottom end. then you can work on the head and everything else but i understand getting it now as the funds are availble and you want to get it over with for sure

I'm curious too about this. I'm stock right now but had done the following:
HKS 272 Cams, AMS Fuel Rail, 880 CC Fuel Injector, Walbro 255 LPH Fuel Pump, Full Turbo Back Megan Exhaust, ACT Stage 2 Racing Clutch (came with the car), Greddy Boost Controller, GreddyTurbo Timer, HKS Air Intake. ETS 3.5 FMIC with UICP and LICP on the way.

What turbo should I get? I'm trying to hit over 500whp. I see alot of people with what I have and only making under 400hp.
I'm a newb so hit me with it.
P.S. Im deployed so time is limited to search so sorry if im asking questions that have already been posted. Some people get real testy about this instead of just helping people new to the game out.

Thanks

You will need more in terms of mods. 4" IC, 1200cc injectors, single walbro FP, and you will need a twin disc clutch. You will make over 500 on 93oct.
