The IX MR had the same seats as any other IX, aside from the SSL.

To answer the OP's question, there is no advantage in buying a MR. The MR differs from other Evos by including a 6-speed of dubious benefit and a terrific Bilstein suspension that most owners sold for inferior Asian coilovers. The MR also includes a badge on the center console, as if Mitsu expected the MR buyer to forget which car he actually purchased, and an alternate shift knob. All other MR items were either standard of other Evolution models or available as dealer-installed options. For example, RS/SE also have aluminum roofs, etc. Personally, I opted for the factory gauges and the brake cooling ducts when I bought my Evo. I have no idea where claims like "bigger oil cooler" even come from.

You shouldn't have any trouble finding a IX MR. It's the most common Evo.

Do MRs handle more boost?
Of course not. It's just like any other Evo of the same generation.

What are some mechanical differences.
The 6-speed and its associated parts.

I've been fascinated by the same thing over the past 4 years, each time someone new comes on the forum and announces that he bought a MR, as if the proverbial bull was just harnessed by its *********. I think that a couple of factors drive this phenomenon. VIII MR - JDM and some EDM cars - did have alternate cams and other higher-performing parts, but USDM Evos did not. Primarily, though, the notion of MR's "goodness," is driven by street cred - numerous, erroneous claims being passed around until they became a de facto reality. As the OP may hang out on the Vortex, I'm not at all surprised by his questions. There, the MR is thought to be the better Evo.

QFT... My VR right now has 268 cams, bosal headers, and a techtonics exhast. Damn I am going to miss that sound...

My idea with the evo is to actually have something a little more quiet. Possibly find the quietest exhaust I can (stock..) and install an exhaust bypass valve for the extra kick in the pants when I need it ... the cops in my town are *******s.

Get a wingless evo if you don't want attention from cops. It helps.

german cars are more expensive to repair and a modded evo will be way more reliable then a vrt.... even just a vr6. i have nothing against german cars i have had four of them and i am a big fan but i still would choose an evo over them any day
