Interesting tidbit: the insurance on the IX will be about 5% _higher_ than what I pay now for the X.

There were a lot of safety features that were mandated I think in 07 - Thats why instead of an 07 IX MR we got a 06 IX MR SE

Congrats on the purchase. I was in the same boat as you last week. I was thinking 'bout getting another older evo. Should have never sold my old '05 MR. Always wanted 2 evos but will have to wait.

The playing field will be a lot more even in the coming years. The 2008 Evo Xs have been uprated in terms of their insurance symbol due to the companies analyzing the statistics. I work in insurance, and up until recently, the X GSR was rated a 20h, and the X MR was rated a 22h, compared to the IXs which are all 26h. Now, the X GSR is a 23h and the X MR is a 25h, so the rates will go up soon enough.

Anyway, congratulations on your soon-to-be new car. Just in case you didn't know, there is a dealership here in California (who sells Evos nationwide) that has four BRAND NEW Evo IX MRs, just in case that was an option for me.

I went from an VIII, to a X, and back to a IX. So speaking from experience, I really don't think you'll be disappointed.

I really do like the Evo Xs...just wasn't my cup of tea in terms of what I use the car for...not to mention the issues I had with the car. But overall I'm glad to be back in a CT9A.

Congrats on your purchase though! Having both would be truly ideal.

If that was me I would drag out the EVo IX into a beast. The X just basic bolt-ons and looks.

Oh, yes, I considered one of the new IX MRs at South Coast. As I'm sure most people have decided, it just made sense to find a slightly-used one than pay the premium for a brand-new one, and then just watch it depreciate down to the same price as soon as it rolls off of the shipping truck.

Plus, I don't like the idea of a car sitting around for four years. Of course, fluids can be changed, new battery, etc. etc., but I'm willing to take my chances with a car that at least has been driven a little bit over the last few years.

The above is why I'm sure Sam hasn't sold 4 out of the 5 new IX cars that he has. I think it's really cool that they're still available, and I hope that they each go to a person who will keep them in like-new condition. But, that's extremely unlikely, which is why in 20 years a nice low-mileage unmodified unmolested IX will probably be worth something.
