X MR owner buys IX MR SE
I saw that this post was moved to the "Evo Newbie" forum. For the record, I'm not a "newbie"--I've had my X for two years.
I guess I'm a "newbie" to the IX, though, so fair enough.

Oh, yes, I considered one of the new IX MRs at South Coast. As I'm sure most people have decided, it just made sense to find a slightly-used one than pay the premium for a brand-new one, and then just watch it depreciate down to the same price as soon as it rolls off of the shipping truck.
Plus, I don't like the idea of a car sitting around for four years. Of course, fluids can be changed, new battery, etc. etc., but I'm willing to take my chances with a car that at least has been driven a little bit over the last few years.
The above is why I'm sure Sam hasn't sold 4 out of the 5 new IX cars that he has. I think it's really cool that they're still available, and I hope that they each go to a person who will keep them in like-new condition. But, that's extremely unlikely, which is why in 20 years a nice low-mileage unmodified unmolested IX will probably be worth something.

^ Ain't that the truth!
I just did some calculations, luckily I only owe maybe $2200 on my IX SE. I had toyed around with buying another one... definitely not feasible at this point in time.

That's great to hear! Congratulations on being able to have two Evos at your disposal.
I would be interested in hearing your side by side comparisons of the two cars. I often hear on these boards about how the Evo IX is more of a raw performance machine, and the Evo X is a bit more refined and so on.

I purchased the X and traded in my old DD when I did. At the time I was tearing apart the I to take it back to stock and sell.
After considering it, I decided to stick with the IX and turn it into the complete track terror that I always wanted since I now have a fun DD to keep me moderately happy on the drive to/from work.
Some interesting side by side data after doing a track day in the X at my usual track, Streets of Willow:
1. My IX was fully modified and running an FP red (64mm) on 91 with AD08's and ran a 1:31:XX CW
2. My X was stock except for upgraded front pads (Stoptech aggressive street), and a set of Swift Springs with cut bumpstops along with an alignment - I ran a 1:30:xx CW
So essentially with a completely stock setup and asc disabled, I ran a full second faster in the X. A key factor to keep in mind for hose of you who haven't run SOW is that it is a tight, small, technical track. Were I to do the same comparison at Buttonwillow, Big Willow, or Laguna Seca, the IX would have crushed it due simply to power. Also, the Red with its lag issues is not an ideal turbo for this track.
Still an interesting comparison and a nice demonstration of what the X can do.
Now I am preparing to max out the stock turbo on the X with bolt ons and port work, I am going to upgrade the wheels, install the Do Luck Trunk, do some minor interior upgrades, and call it a day for that as my DD.
Congrats to the OP, because trust me, this really is the best of both worlds...unless you are a GF or Wife of someone that has two modificaiton money pits of course
I am not at all meaning to sound mean, because I am actually a bit jealous of your garage, however: don't be worried about dropping the value of either. Outside of sentimental value, they don't hold much else. I would probably make the IX the track car if were in your shoes. Also, please post up on what you like/dislike about both cars. Thanks for sharing.

Now, as far as the X is concerned, then you are correct. The X will continue depreciating, and even a "nice" one will not maintain value as long as there are continual improvements to the new platform as the years go on. Of course, if the XI is really a hybrid, then all bets are off...
