I say look into a BB 6262, good down low tq and pulls like crazy up top. Put that on E85 and your good to go. I hear the black tends to fall off in the upper rpm range. And T3 gives you a ton of choices if you ever feel the need to change.

Unless he's going to go with a built engine, he'll never see the drop in power. Mine was pretty flat with a "slight" decrease from 7k-7.5k. Personally, I'd also ask the OP, what is you final intentions for the car. Keep in mind a 400whp is a NICE street car that you can enjoy and take on long trips. When you start getting bigger and bigger, the car STOPS becoming a nice street car and more of a dedicated race car. Don't sacrifice street fun for more power.

Perfect answer

The FP Black is the best choice for 500whp, although I would go BBK-Full for time being and enjoy the early spool!!! The BBK varies b/w 400-450 based on dyno, but its a kickass turbo anyway!!

I would say stick to the BBK and enjoy its stock-like spool and 400-450 whp. A year later or so, switch to Black and reach 500whp with ~700 RPM of lag!

BTW, You have to change your cams; both the Kelford and GSC S2 are perfect, although I found out that the GSC S2 have a slight advantage in mid-range torque.

Synapse Synchronic BOV is the best currently, hands down

Good Luck

Thanks for the Advice!!! I will diffently like to keep this a street car. I uselly drive this once or twice a year home (600 one way) so diffently will keep it around the 400whp range.

No E85 station around hear, plan on doing pump gas 93 oct with full meth or a 75/25 mix

I plan on stroking the engine in the next year or two.....so the lag is not a big deal, much reither buy one turbo and stick with it. I do need to do some research on cams thou

Im kind of surprised all of you guys are saying do the Black. Im doing the Red on 93+meth and my goals are 450-490whp on a mustang dyno, or 500-530whp on a dynojet and I plan on running it around 30ish psi. The Red will spool a lot quicker than a Black will too, and Im like you, I plan on doing a stroker within a year or so, at that time I plan on sending the Red to be converted to a Black when I know I have a block that'll be able to handle the torque the black produces.

Anyone reputable that Ive asked, including FP, said doing a Black on the stock block will be a ticking time bomb if you plan on pushing it. If you dont push it, youll be safe...but at that point, why buy the Black and have the lag when you could get a Red, push it a little harder, and make more power and more usable power than you would if you did the black??

As for cams, I went nuts trying to decide on cams, but you have an VIII, I have a IX. I ended up deciding on GSC S2's, but it was between those, FP4R's and Kelford 272's. Theres plenty of guys running the Kelfords making nasty power and grabbing nasty times.

I agree, the red is also great for the stock block and spools quick. Maybe perhaps when he decides to go with built internals/block he may want the fp black in the future which are beasts

Hello i don't mean to share threads but I read about the bandwidth for server problem for EvoM. but I am actually starting to build power on my Evo myself. I DON'T want as much power as them but I was looking for 400ish WHP. Right now.. It's pretty much bone stock besides aftermarket clutch and a new FMIC. I was planning on getting the BBK turbo. Would I have to get any aftermarket internals to keep it safe from the boost. I dont want to really keep it on high boost etc. I baby my car very much but I would love the power for autox and track days. To avoid a blown motor etc... what steps are recommended thanks x]

400whp would be pretty doable on the BBK or FP HTA Green. You would be safe on the stock block with either of those turbos. Head studs wouldnt hurt though for sure.

That be great. Would the BBK or FP HTA Green cause any damage in the long run? Would you recommend internal work down the line? I don't push my car and it's still running on stock boost lol. I just don't want to sacrifice the heart of the evo for too much power ya know what i mean x]

As long as the tune is in check you shouldnt have any thing to worry about. If youre tuned for say 24 psi, dont crank it to 32 ya know what I mean? lol

The stock internals would be able to handle both turbos just fine. The stock 4G63 is a master piece and can really handle a lot of abuse. STM ran a 6262 turbo (equivalent roughly to a 35R) on the stock 4G63 for a long time and they set the record at 10.0 at 142 for the stock block. The only reason the block blew up was because of a mis-shift and not becasue the internals couldnt handle the power. On a pass at the track, they accidentally went from 3 to 2 instead of 3 to 4, so the motor over-revved and went boom.
