RPM on the Highway

I have not purchase an EVO yet and am concerned about the high RPM's in 5th on the highway for my 50 mile commute. I love everything else about this car. Is the 3600? RPM engine speed at 80 MPH (I think) really annoying or is it something I would really only notice if I was taking a 4 or 5 hour trip. Thanks.

the buzz of the motor on the highway isn't annoying. Infact the motor runs so quiet you'll bearly hear it. You will hear more road noise then engine noise.

You must be convert from the wonderful world of automatic tranny domestic cars, right? :P

Most Japanese cars rev fairly high at highway speeds, esp if they are 5 speed and 4 cylinders. They need to cruise at a rpm speed where there is useful torque available.

3600rpm's really isn't all that much in an Evo. Think about it, 3600rpm's is only 1/2 way up the rev band.

I don't notice it at all. In stock form this car is fairly quiet inside.

SC~

Mine is exactly 3,000 at 65 mph. I think 80 is about 3,500. I personally don't like to keep running at 3,500 for long periods of time. I drive about 20 miles to work at about 70 mph each day. I'm running a Vishnu Stage 1 Signature setup. The exhaust noise isn't bad between 3,000 - 3,500.

For those guy who have longer commutes, say an excess of 25+ miles one way, what speed do you drive at? Curious to see the speed in relation to mileage per tank and whether or not you're on/off of boost.

i have noticed that i get a slightly better MPG if i keep it above 3000rpm, i am always driving between 75-85mph and can go above 300miles per tank easly.

at 3500rpm the car is very quiete, even with a cat back.

stay out of boost = more mpg. that simple. it really jsut depends on how your car is tuned.
