Should I choose a EVO or STI?
I just sold my 08 STi for an 08 EVO X MR and I'm so happy with it. I love the ride in the EVO, stiff and responsive. Can't stand the dash in the STi, the front seats, SI-drive is kinda cheesy, and the stock suspension is garbage. But I miss the sound of the boxer rumble. That's it. EVO's all the way!!

Bnygueens, I don't spread BS. When I do safety check on trade in, I have to write down what is wrong with a car or my job is worthless. Hell, I'm too old to play games.
I have been working Mits. since 1984, I just picked up an 2003 EVO 8 for my daily driver. Believe me not much goes wrong with the EVO or I would not get one. All the STI that got traded in,have coolant leaking from the head gasket. Get one that have been taken care off and not too mod. Evo will get you 200k miles plus. Plus the EVO will turn heads more.[/
That is bull****, I never have seen coolant leak on STI's dont spread bull****. Sti is a Daily driver and fun, Evo is more built for track/drag in my option and fun.

Im not attacking you or anything but I have been around with subie's for 5 years and I have never experianced leaky headgaskets or coolant leaking from the HG.
Anyways we all know this argument will never end sti or evo , evo or sti ?

I know of no one local that struggles to hit 300 WHP on the stock block with the STI. That's at Calgary elevation on crappy gas.
There's nothing wrong with aluminum blocks, the new Evo X has an aluminum block, you just have to be smart.
So far I know of no one personally that has experienced any of the problems you speak of. Horror stories are present on all forums, NASIOC just appears to have more since it's a massive forum.
What it boils down to is personal preference, do you like Coke or Pepsi? I find it funny that people bring up Top Gear when the hosts of Top Gear openly admitted that they preferred the STI to the Evo even though they couldn't quantify why. For the most part, the arguments are those of extremes under the assumption that you'll be wanting the most power possible. If the OP only wants a lightly modded daily driver, both cars are more than adequate.

Oh and I forgot to mention that most of those 8 wrx/sti people had stock motors. My first motor blew at 42k miles, it was a stock motor. The 2nd motor was a built shortblock that blew
Anyways being a former sti owner, I would personally stay away from it. All it gave me was headaches and put me into a ridiculous debt to keep fixing the POS. After buying the evo, I've had virtually no problems other than a rear wheel bearing that went out(all I did was buy a new hub assembly and installed it myself for 300 bucks). The evo has been a reliable car to where I finally was able to set aside money again to pay off my debts from the sti.

It sounds like your an example of an unlucky owner. They can be found on any forum. Hell, we had an individual on here who had two gas pedals snap on his brand new Evo X just as there have been individuals with Evos of various years that have been plagued with nothing but problems. I personally know of no one that has had major issues with their Subarus, whether they're stock or not.
Ya it was a very unlucky car, I'm just glad I got rid of it. It put me into really bad debt that I finally paid off about 6 months ago. It really sucked to have a 423 dollar car payment, rent, other bills, insurance, and coming up with 5K somehow to keep fixing the motor. Specially at that time I was making decent money I should have been living comfortably instead of pay check to pay check. I can't say much about the evo X because I've honestly have not done any research or owned the car. When I was getting rid of the sti, I debated on whether to buy a new car like an evo X or just an evo 8 because I could pay it cash and not have to worry about a car payment at that time. I chose the evo 8, I just felt like saving money again for the time being and it would be cheaper for me to mod and make power. I think eventually I will buy a new car again but it isn't a priority for me at this time.
And wasn't there some debate as to the legitimacy of the Lightning Lap? I recall you and other Evo owners raising concern over the results after the Evo was beaten by other cars.
I love the fact that this is an Evo forum and there seems to be more members that DON'T own Evos than DO....................**** cracks me up................
I own a Miata; lemme join an Evo forum.........................lol
