to clear up all the missinformation that's starting to roll in...yes, that is factory launch control. it only activates when the car is at a complete stop in 1st gear. It is possible to bypass it by coming to an almost complete stop, revving, and then stopping. I've done this by accident before. It's also possible by letting the car roll slightly, then revving. Launching at 5k was good enough for me to do 12.82 @ 107.41mph on stock clutch, with a decent launch (track conditions weren't the best, and i'm not sure if the clutch held the way it was supposed to), on a bone stock EVO IX MR, so i'd say use it. the stock 2 step is your friend once you learn how to use it.

I've written up steps to a good launch in the launch threads in the motorsport section.

Launch control.... did pre-'05 models have em? I didn't think my buddies 03 did, could have been removed.

05 and 06 are the only years with the launch control, 5200 rpm

I believe that would be the regular rev limiter that in being hit for the 03 and 04 Evos.

no its not the rev limiter, its actually set above the rev-limiter. I guess mitsu just made it to where you could not use it. You have to have the ecu flashed to be able to use it. A tuner can adjust it to whatever you want, mitsubishi just made it factory well about the stock rev-limit.

05 and 06 EVOs have a secondary rev limiter(launch control) set at 5000 rpms built into the ECU that is dependent on vehicle speed sensor(zero mph) and clutch pedal switch(must be fully depressed to the floor)
