Hi there :)

Whats up guys. Im Tim and i live in St. Louis. Im planning on getting an Evo 8 or 9 in about a month and figured i should join a forum. Right now i have an Acura Integra with a JDM front end and a B16a swap from japan. The integra is cool and all but the opportunity for me to get a new car kinda popped up and i figured i better jump on it. Ive always been a fan of Evo's and with my buddy getting a WRX i figured i would go AWD too.

If any of you guys have any advice for me or anything i need to know just post it up, i would really appreciate it.

Tim

Yeah i kinda figured the EVO would stomp the wrx. I was contemplating getting a WRX cause its about 6k cheaper but i think i would be happier with the EVO.

He is getting a bug eye WRX. Im sure after a little while i will start to build it. I dont like leaving things stock. I bought the Integra pretty much bone stock and after 2 years you would never guess it was the same car.

The Evo is awesome if you dont mind the rattles, squeeks, wirls and wines. Its definitely not quiet and its much more expensive. Have a job that can afford the car or else you will hate it.

I got a Evo 8 and it stomps modded WRX's. So you shouldn't have to worry about your friends WRX. But as negative said, it does make alot of weird noises. But hell, I love that about my Evo. The only thing thats kinda a bummer is the decel. it sounds.. well weird. You might have it with your evo maybe not. Some people say its the clutch or flywheel. Who knows. But it's not a problem just a pet peeve.

Good luck man, post pics when you get it for sure.

Out of curiosity, why did you swap a B16 into an Integra? I know it has the DOHC VTEC goodness that adds top end (assuming that you have a GS/LS/SE and not a GS-R/Type-R), but its smaller displacement and tuning gives it pretty terrible torque that is shamed by even the standard non-VTEC B18 motor, while the difference in top end hp could have been made up elsewhere. It's just odd that you went with a smaller motor when there are other options that are more sensible (i.e. LS/VTEC conversion, B18C engine swap, etc.) than going with the smaller motor.

That is kinda funny to swap a B16 in a teggy. Ive owned a 2000 si, a 93 ls turbo hatch and I just sold my gsr tegg. I can safely say that even before boost the ls B18 has way more torque even with the 8:1 compression.

When i bought the Integra i didnt know a lot about them. It came with the B16a and when i popped the hood and saw Vtec i was even more excited. I bought the car a couple days later. If i was going to swap an engine into it i would of gone with a B18c1 or B18c5. c5 is the ITR motor and was one of the best B series IMO.

Anyways, i found an EVO. The guy is asking 9.5k and the car has 113k. Here is what he said about it:

This Mitsubishi Evolution VIII is a great buy for you car enthusiast. It is mostly stock, only upgrades are a cone air filter, Boost guage, Oil pressure guage, Oil temp guage in dash. It has an Alpine CD player with iPod/iPhone hookup to listen and control your iPod/iPhone with your stereo. The interior is in great condition. I am a non-smoker so there is no nicotine smell or stains in the upholstery. The car is very strong and pulls hard. As you can see in the pictures, the front bumper needs to be replaced. The condenser needs to be replaced. And there is a crack in the rear bumper. The car idles at 19in hg and blows some white/gray smoke at high rpms. Believed to be blow-by. That is the only notable problems with this vehicle. I unfortunately have to part with this car due to having a family and needing something more economical. Also to note, there is no lien on this car. It is fully paid off. The mileage will vary just a bit since I am using this car to go to work and back.

I would post pictures of it up but i cant get them to save to my macbook. Anyways the front bumper doesnt need to be replaced by any means. It needs to be hit with a tiny bit of filler, sanded smooth, then resprayed. Also the rear bumper needs to be plastic welded then hit with filler and resprayed. To me these are very minor things and i could have them fixed in a week and i have a buddy that does autobody.

My main questions about it from what he said is if the car is legit and if i should buy it or not. Also on the cluster it doesnt have tarmac, snow, and gravel. Why is that?

Thanks guys
Tim

We know the B18C5 is the Type-R motor... but it wasn't "one of the best," it was THE best out of the box. That is, unless there is a motor that you appreciate more than that.

Out of the previous bodystyle Evos, only the 2005s and 2006s had ACD, so the 2003s and 2004s won't have the tarmac/gravel/snow indicators since they were not equipped with ACD in the U.S.

I figured you guys knew what motor it was out of but i didnt know. lol

Gotcha about the ACD, thanks for clarifying that for me. What do you think of the info the guy posted? Sound like its worth 9.5k?
