Sway bars help, but you'll need more than that to get a WRX to run at Evo levels. One of my closest buddies has an '04 STi (already much more capable than a WRX, mind you), and after upgrading a lot of stuff like bushings, springs and swaybars, it started to handle pretty comparably to my Evo (though of course without the quick steering ratio).

It's not impossible, but it takes a lot of work to get a WRX to handle close to an Evo.

you are telling this to a guy that had a sti with $3k in suspension mods. that work MAYBE put it on par with a stock evo. but my evo is far from stock so i dont know what this guy is trying to prove with his sway bar wrx

You really have no idea what you're talking about.

For starters, you're comparing anti-swaybar diameters relative to two completely different platforms, as if the size, itself, is the sole determining factor. Not only do you not seem to understand how a suspension works, but you also have no idea how to gauge an anti-swaybar. That's just one example.

I was saying kdiggz twisted my words.

The original argument was that MY WRX with my mods would maybe be able to hang with a stock evo on a tight track for a few laps until my brakes overheated. I don't KNOW this, which is why I suggested we try a slalom test in the parking lot to see how many Gs we can each pull.

I have no idea where you are getting this garbage about me saying 'a wrx is as fast as an evo except in a straight line' etc.. those words never left my mouth.

And now I'm considering going stage 3 with my wrx which would be:

vf39 turbo
565cc injectors
sti TMIC
walbro 255 fuel pump

also:
2005+ legacy GT brakes + sti BBS rims

I already have the bbs rims so the other mods should run me about $1000.. so for $1000 I'm wondering, how close will I be to a stock evo on a race track?? It will cost me about $5000 - $8000 to upgrade to an evo, and I'm just tryingto determine how many seconds on my laptimes will that extra money get me?Thats the entire point of anything I ever said haha..

5-8k? u can get an evo with as many miles as your car for MAYBE 1-2k more. u r talking about getting a low mile evo if u r saying its that much of a difference. but then u r talking about spending 1-2k on your wrx at which case it will cost just as much but STILL wont be as capable as an evo

i'm being sarcastic. he's saying he bought bigger sway bars so that makes his car 90% as good as an evo with that mod alone. u r the one that doesn't understand cornering if u r saying that a wrx with sway bars is going to keep up with the vastly superior awd system, yaw, more rigid frame, bigger wheels, higher spring rate on the evo

i had an 02 wrx, let me tell you that car was SLOW!!!!!!!!!!!!! You can throw all the mods on it you want, it just wont make as much power. and if you do, you have a good chance of blowing your motor(or ringlands, which ever comes first), or totally grenading that tranny. I know i hurts but thats the reality.........

I quoted your comment verbatim in a previous post.

Please don't try putting words in my mouth. This thread is embarrassing.

10% is a huge difference in performance when talking track cars. If that's your goal with your WRX, then no need to invest in anything else. But remember, 10% difference is going from a 58 second lap time to a 52... lap time, not even close in the world of track cars. As long as you're happy, that's all that matters.

and a side note, you will mod the crap out of that rex to be fast as a stock evo, but to counter that idea, if you incounter an evo at the track i will gaurentee it wont be stock at all. So as everyone knows its an arguement that will never end. your friend may or may not see the light! ha.........funny thread either way!

Well, since I have the attention of people who probably have some clue of what they are talking about - consider a tight track where a stock evo 8 runs exactly 1 minute with a good driver.

If you take an 04 wrx with my mods, what kind of lap time would you expect assuming all other variables are equal? (tires, driver, conditions etc)

Now how about if you apply my second list of prospective mods?

And yes if I get an evo i'm looking for a lower miles one.

haha he is my good friend and i just like messing with him to get him fired up. he likes to argue with me on everything.

but can u guys agree that spending $1-2k on more mods for a wrx with 100k miles is a bad idea? he thinks he has about $12k in parts and value of the car right now. why not sell it and get an evo with less miles for like $14k? he says he already found one for that price but the miles were too high even though it has like 20k miles less than what his car has now! i guess i dont get it. the evo is just the better track vehicle in every way and its marginally more expensive, or in his case a complete wash. UPGRADE!
