03 Evo 8 vs 04 WRX

My friend just doesn't get it. I think because he has never driven an evo. But basically he has this old 04 WRX with almost 100k miles that he tries to track. He can go 3-4 laps before his brakes are worthless. Not to mention his car is soooo slow. I don't know how he can stand it.

I tried to talk him into getting an evo 8 instead as it will fulfill his needs as a capable track car and perform much much better than his wrx. He does not think it will though. He thinks his WRX is just as good as a evo 8 in anything but a straight line. Can someone please help me educate him on the differences? All I can say is going from a sti to an evo x was like night and day. The evo is the better car in every way. And an sti is so ridiculously better than a wrx in every way, so you do the math!

Thanks!

All you need to do is race him at the track. Let him see the light.

Yea well he was one of those v8 guys too and I had to educate him on the 4cyl turbo cars. That's how he ended up with a WRX. But now that he is into tracking in the summer, he should get a more track capable car. Maybe the evo on a city street isn't a TON better than a wrx besides straight line, but on a track it's not even going to be close!

haha now he says he wants to pit his car vs mine in a slalom test to see which cars pulls the most G's. he says his car is at least 90% as good as an evo so its not worth it to him to upgrade. so not only does he want a 10% handicap but he also insists that he is going to bring some slicks with him haha. my car with completely bald tires will beat his car with slicks which is funny enough. what a derp this guy is

I have an Evo IX and had an 04 WRX. In my opinion, they aren't even in the same league on a track. Evo is night and day more capable.

+1

the biggest thing i think the evo has over the wrx is confidence

When you drive a evo into a corner you feel confident. a wrx brings your confidence down.

Your friend is just ignorant then. Even without driving the Evo, it already has superior hardware and much better factory numbers (in terms of engine output, as there is a HUGE different between a stock WRX's 227 hp and a stock Evo's 271 hp). Obviously he has no rationale for his statement, though you can remind him that the Evo has a rear mechanical LSD while the WRX's is viscuous, if you want to base it on facts.

i had an 02 wrx before i picked up the evo.

it is like comparing a z28 and a z06. both fun cars but the z06 is in a different league.

Hahaha wow, we have a discussion and this is where it ends up. Let me tell you guys the real story.

I'm the guy with the 04 wrx. I have whiteline 24mm adjustable sways, sti springs, koni strut inserts, 225 slicks and my car is stage 2. I've also got EBC Yellowstuff pads and ate blue fluid. On to the discussion:

I am looking for an EVO to buy, but can't find a deal on one. So kderp here bought an evo X and his iphone records G force, so I offered to test the 2 cars to see how much of a difference there really is in a slalom test. I am trying to determing if its worth it for me to upgrade to an evo for weekend track duty.

Yes I know the evo brakes are better, my wrx brakes overheat after 8-10 laps.

Yes I know his gt35r turbod evo is faster in a straight line, I never disputed that so I have no idea how you are so retarded you somehow pulled that form anything I ever said.

The only challenge I made, is I bet my WRX with my mods and my DOT approved track slicks will be at least 90% as fast in the corners as your evo. Thats it! So if your evo is 'in another leauge' as you say, you should have no problem keeping me out of that 90% realm... right?

So how about we take this to the real world like I originally suggested, instead of posting on an Evo forum for people to agree that an evo is better than a WRX? hahaha you are such a total derp

post it on the wrx forum. u will get the same result! the wrx isn't even close in performance to an evo in any way shape or form!

i never said u thought u were as fast as my car. show me where i said that. i dont even think your motorcycle is as fast as my car but thats another discussion!

u have sway bars that r as big as my stock sways. how do u think that gives u an advantage?

i guess i dont know why im even spending all this effort arguing. u just dont get it. a wrx is no competition for an evo. this is silly to even be arguing about!!!

^ We were just basing our opinions on what your friend described, so if it was inaccurate, then take it up with him, especially since you just barely now chimed in to explain things, so we didn't twist your words since there were no words to twist.

he thinks because he added some sway bars that now its silly for him to spend the money to upgrade to an evo because his car will perform at 90% of what an evo will. that is the dumbest thing i've ever heard. this guy is too much.

he just justified running slicks by saying "if the evo is in another league then why do u care if i run slicks?" uhhh then why couldnt i just run slicks too? this is getting ridiculous
