s2000 & Evo
Hey guys, how you all doing?
I'm due to purchase a car within the next 4 months or so and i've narrowed it down to the s2000 and the evo. I believe both cars are beautiful in their own respects, and i'm sure alot of people have chosen an evo over an s2000 on this forum and vice versa on the s2000 forums.
For those that had the s2000 as one of their alternatives, what made you choose the evo over the s2000? Any of its mechanical features that the evo is lacking in? I heard the transmission isn't too great, just like the **** weak differentials on the s2000. Were you after performance, cruiser, a drivers car?
By no means do I mean for this post to eventuate into a car debate, as I have clearly stated, both cars are different and its all up to personal preference, why did you prefer the evo?
Cheers!

I bought my Evo for its luxurious appointments, its fantastic fuel economy, and its low insurance rates.

This is just a mere fraction of what's available is you search for S2000.

I traded an AP2 S2000 on my EVO 9 a few months ago. I much prefer the EVO on a daily basis. Apart from performance, I enjoy the 2 extra doors and the larger trunk. Obviously the EVO has greater acceleration across the board. I find that the EVO is a better highway cruiser.
I loved my S2000 when I bought it, but in the end I'm not really a convertible guy. It was nice to put the top down and not feel like you were cooped up in a car. The last day I drove the car it was sunny and 90+ degrees out. Convertibles kind of lose their luster in the heat. My wife and I would be covered in sweat after a day of driving.
You can't be a big guy and drive an S2000. I'm 6'0" or so and about 170lbs. and I would not want to drive the car if I were much bigger. It was tough to get in the car in a tight garage with the top up. I kept smacking my head on the top or on the window when I tried to get in.
It's nice to have a full car again (4 doors and trunk). I don't think that I will ever find a better car to suit my needs/desires. Great power and handling yet still has plenty of room to carry 4/5 people, groceries, golf clubs, luggage, or whatever else I require.
You can definitely DD either car. I'd get a hard top and quality snow tires if I were going to drive the S2000 in the winter. I thought about getting a 2nd car to supplement the S2000--was thinking subaru wagon, but then decided I'd rather just have one car right now. The EVO was the most sensible choice for me to have a fun car combined with practicality.
Are we talking all-out track car? I'd suspect both cars would be a great starting point and then it would come down to preference as to what you'd like to do with it.

I'm going to add to my previous post. Budget may come into play here. I paid considerably different prices for the S2000 and the EVO.
S2000s are dirt cheap. I bought a 2004 with ~45K miles for $13,000. I paid almost twice that for an EVO IX MR with 23K miles (came with a 3 year bumper to bumper warranty though--a warranty was an absolute must for me when buying a used EVO).

I have both. IMO, the cars balance each other out. Each car has its strengths.
S2K:
Looks
Handling - 50/50 weight distro balanced handling way better than a stock evo
RWD
Best shifter I've ever driven. Heel/toe downshifting is almost effortless.
Better gas mileage
Can go topless!!
EVO:
Power
Turbo
Roomy
AWD
Good in the rain

I have had two s2000's, one DD one track car and i just purchased my first evo. I loved my track S2000 but had lots of issues with the DD, go figure. I purchased the evo because i wanted a car i could drive to the track and still run competetive lap times. The S is sick on the track but lacks power IMO. I have diven many cars on track and am very excited to get my IX out there.... Just for fun.
Go with the Evo, it will not dissapoint. Better yet go test drive the two and then make a decision. Like you said its all personnal prefrence. Just my .2 having 4 doors and more space to include the turbo charged 2.0 and AWD is incredible. The Evo is a track monster, and daily driver/ grocery getter all in one package. Good luck on your decision.
Well here's the deal lol,
Sometimes when i'm with my mates about to go fishing and i'm driving the accord (car pool), i'm sitting there thinking, I can't do this with an s2k. However, everytime i see my mates s2k, the convertible just seems like a treat, I want a convertible. I believe the s2k's looks>evo.
But,
I want torque, the s2k just has none, and it costs an arm and leg to extract a few more hp since the engine is already peaked from factory.
These are pretty much my for's and against arguments lol. Which outweigh the other, which would I be more comfortable at the end of the day? Sorry I sound like a poof, but this is hard earned money and I'd like to spend it properly lol.

I owned both at the same time (twice actually) and I have to say I really thought I was a hardcore S2K lover until I fully adjusted to my Evo. At first I just wanted the S2000. Then I got rid of her, daily drove my Evo for awhile and got another S2K. You know what happened? Everytime I got in the S2000 I *****ed about the lack of room, the uncomfortable seat positioning, not being able to haul anything, not being able to have friends ride with me, the terrible sound quality, the lack of visibility, the list goes on and on. I miss her on some days when the weather is gorgeous but the Evo is amazing. She does it all.

more practical and cheaper to mod.
