MAP 2.4L pistons problems with Turbo Tuff Rods

Are the map spec 2.4l pistons made for a specific rod or can any 4g63 rod be used. the reason i ask is because i was installing some alum rods into my 4g64 engine build and they would lock up when i tried to spin just one rod. I pull the rod of and check with one of my turbo tuff rods and they would also lock up?

Better than waiting around for someone that may or may not be right answering your question.

Did you pin fit the rods to the pistons? There are a lot of newbies that think you can build an engine by taking pistons and rods out of a box and bolt it all together. That is far from the truth. There is quite a bunch of professional measurement and machining required to set clearances appropriately.

Not a newbie buddy... ASE Certified Tech here.

your question relates to piston and rod assembly not Rod clearance.

How about some helpful input next time.

Your asking about pistons when your question is more rod related. What length are the rods?

And your point? Pistons wont effect rods clearing the block.

both those rods are pretty beefy near rod bearing. there will be one cylinder where the rod comes too close to oil gallery. in you case it is hitting. simply grind in that spot on the block till you have .040 clearance.

where is it hitting to cause it to lock up?. skirt, above the wrist pin, side of the block?

the Turbo tuff manley should spin over just fine. it actually has one of the smallest small ends out there (on the bottom bellow the wrist pin).
