I have the ebay one and it has great quality. It has 2 settings 40% less throw and 15% less throw. I had it at 40% and I liked it. However, I was hearing alot of stuff about people telling me that I would mess up my synchros. Then I switched back to 15% less throw and now I love it. IMO the short shifter only made it harder to get into gear.
Long throw/easier into gear > short throw/harder into gear.
If you want to improve your shifting, get the underhood and shifter bushings. Then get an AMS shift knob. The result will be AWSOME.

I have it and love it! I use it in combonation with the shifter base and under hood shifter bushings, and a counter weighted shift knob, and hammering through the gears is a breeze. No Buschur product has ever dissapointed me, and I think you would be more then happy with it.
I have it on my car with a brand new Shep built 5spd transmission. The car isn't driven in the winter and my only observations so far is that 1-4 is smooth as butter to get into. 5 and Reverse are a bit tricky. I'm not sure whether to chalk that up to the SS or the new transmission.
Possibly when the weather gets warmer and I get some miles on the transmission it will go away. I also have the shifter & under hood bushings as well.

I couldn't see any way in which you would break the shifter anymore then you would with any other shifter including the stocker.
Have had mine in the car some time now. No issues shifting
Often the problem with an Ebay short shifter straight off the boat from China is that they are made of aluminum and the different pieces are held on by set screws or spring pins. Aluminum is not really a proper material for a part like a Evo 8 shifter because of the stress it's supporting on every shifts, and it's always better to have a two piece design welded together rather than holding with set screws.
Our Evo 8 short shifter is more expensive, yes, but it is made of solid steel and TIG welded for maximum durability. It also comes with the aluminum base bushings to firm up the whole assembly.

eBay one is tested and proven on multiple cars, check out the links and reviews I posted above. It's been on my old IX for going on 50k miles so far with plenty of autocross and track days w/o issue. The eBay one is the exact same as the Fidanza and B&M down to the box and plastic bag it comes in.
If you're going to spend the money for a brand name one though check out the WORKS and TWM shifters.
