Modded evos?
Modded evos?
Hi, everyone i'm looking to buy a pre-modded evo 8. somewhere around 400~ bhp.
My main concern is the reliability. If its done correctly how long should i expect the car to last? I would mainly be driving it in the weekends as I have a DD.
Thank you

Do you have a link to the car? Can't really answer the question without specifics.
More info would be nice but 400 on a dd for an evo is going to be nice as long as it has a good tune. The evo motor stock I have been reading can handle 500whp. As far as buying it modded like that I would have it thoroughly checked out depending on you knowing the buyer or shop car etc....
im thinking with regular maintainence, as long as the previous owner didnt hammer on it, and how hard YOU hammer on it, it should easily last 100...150...200k+. I've owned an 03 VIII in the past premodded which was running about 350whp and bought it at 40,000. I sold it at close to 100k with only minor issues..but i made sure to follow the maintainence timetables and stuck to them as much as i could..i think with any car that is the most important whether you have a sports car or a ford tauraus you know what i mean?
hm?...... .... ... .. .

I'd be hoping to get one with receipts done etc, a lot of the cars in the classifieds seem like they are done correctly.
But reliability is the main issue.
So, yes, it is entirely possible to have a 400bhp Evo that's reliable to a fault. If this is what you want, find a stock IX. And I mean STOCK, not put back to stock, with an original clutch. Add (only) a boost controller, a TBE, and have the car tuned by one of the better known Evolution specialists, and you'll have a very quick, extremely reliable machine that can take virtually anything.
Here's what I can tell you: My IX pulls ~310-320whp on STM's MD, which is probably somewhere around the 400bhp mark. It's the most reliable car I've owned in +30 years behind the wheel. The car has virtually no mods - just the bare necessities to uncork the motor - it is religiously maintained, and never abused. Don't get me wrong. I'm willing to bet that I drive harder, rev higher, brake shorter, and corner quicker than 99% of the folks here. That's not what I mean by abuse.

and sorry to ask another question.
but i'll be trading in my G37s coupe for this car. And my DD will be a cayenne GTS. think ill be missing the G with a 450~ hp evo 8?
The reason im trading it in is because the G is performance and luxury, but it excels at neither and i dont want 2 luxury cars.
Thanks
If you're looking for a car on the forum, not a bad idea, it's easy enough to review the sellers past posts and threads. You can tell volumes by reading what was said before the guy ever thought of selling his car. Regardless of the car you buy, you should take it to an Evo-specific shop and have it checked out. This is crucial. Not an import shop, not a (general) speed shop, but an Evolution shop. As a perspective owner you simply cannot know the platform well enough to cover all the bases.

bolts missing is also a good indication that its been touched before and probably been previously modded.
