My advice for one, go to a SCCA school and learn to drive, whether you end up with an Evo or a Civic, I plan on getting into a school soon, its very easy to get yourself into too much trouble.

And as a first car, like many things in life, not always a bad idea to progress through it first.....Evo doesn't have to be your first car......you could buy a cheap manual car and learn how to drive and appreciate the Evo much more down the road.

I'm very glad i started out a with an old, manual Toyota Celica. As well as an old manual camera, before i got my fancy digital camera and lens.

I'll admit, its very hard not to jump straight through to the fast cars.......but it makes things a lot easier if you ease into it and go up in steps.

Just about as much as you calling someone dumb for them saying teenagers drive stupidly.

This is not a new concept chief. New driver, fast car, living above means, wrecked car, higher insurance for all.

I repeat OP do not get a Evo as your first car unless you, your mommy, or your daddy can afford maintenance done right, insurance, the clutch you'll go through in 10k, and your tickets.

To say a teenager is not going to get in a car like this, try to impress the world, and drive stupid is just not a reality.

nope. i had a 2000 jeep grand cherokee that was slowly falling apart. but it made good for a place to have sex with the ladies.

and, like many say, it will empty your pockets of cash. it will have a diff problem every couple weeks. and unless you have some fantastic job making a bit of money or parents who like to spoil you, i would wait on purchasing an evo

I see what you mean by the cost to take car of it.
But back to my original question. Is it worth tuning the car...IF i find a stock one..or should i just leave it stock.
And you cant really judge one teen and assume theyre all the same...

I would get the Evo and just leave it stock till your income can support mods and maintenance, things break easier on a 500hp car than on a 300hp one

I got my Evo at 17 but that was my third car, had an 05 ralliart and a G35, yes I know its stupid, three cars in less than two years. I just upgraded it little by litte.

17-300whp(stock turbo pump)
18-400whp(Tomei pump)
19-500whp(Red E85)
20 now - hoping for 600whp on E85
next year im getting an HTA86, im upgrading 100whp every year lol

good luck man

Damn Man 17 yr old and looking at an evo as your first car...

Dude age isnt the problem its the fact that you want an EVO as a first car. My first car was an Infiniti G20 at age 15. I went through three cars before buying my first evo at age 18. You diffenitly need experience and a big wallet to maintian these cars. just a friendly advice DONT DO IT!

You being 17 is NOT the ISSUE. Getting an EVO as a first car IS, its rediculous, EVOm members just dont want to see a beater evo here, Hince all the negative comments on the thread.

Again AGE isnt the issue man i got my first evo when i was 18 and a friend of mine, who is 18, jsut got an evo X but he had like four cars prior. Its about experience and your checking account.

I couldn't possibly care less what car a kid drives at what age. I wouldn't do it if I were the parent, but that's their business. Most of my clients have purchased brand new Escalades, BMWs and even an Aston Martin (yes, i know) for their 16-18 year old kids.

But if you kill yourself driving like a dumba55 teenager, I don't care either.
