long time member, noob question about suspension
Hey everyone, I have been in the evo community for a couple years and all that good stuff, but I never really learned anything about suspension and whats good and whats not as far as brands and setups etc. I recently got my second evo and the suspension IMO is less than good quality to put it nicely. Its on megan coilovers and they are not very solid at all. The car currently is set up for more of a drag racing profile, no strut bars, and soft springs that do not adjust much stiffer. I am way more into handling as far as turns and stiffness so I want to scrap this setup and try to re create the feel of my old evo (stiff as a board) So if someone could school me on what is an affordable coil over setup that is very DD friendly but can keep the car feeling solid as a rock, I would be very appreciative. Also, are stut bars noticibly effective? If so ill probably invest. Thanks again-
I love kw v3 because of there dd ability and adjustability on track.
The only down side is Maybe the price. You mentioned affordable.
That's such a relative term. Maybe you can say between $?-$?.
Strut tower braces in my opinion are a waste of money. I just don't
Feel any difference with them. Buti am alittle more of the school that things
Need to travel alittle. Too stiff is not nessisarly my main goal.

yeah my bad on the genral statement but between 1 grand and 2 grand is basically what I would consider affordable. I will have to check out the KW's thanks for the imput
a topic like this comes up about once a week :P seeing ur budget u only have 2 choices:
1) get a set of used bilsteins and get Swift Spec R or GT Worx springs (this is the cheap way)
2) invest in KW v3s, which can be found anywhere from $1700-2200 depending on how hard u look and how lucky you are.
other than those 2 choices you are going to have to drop over $2000 when it comes to coilovers.
as far as strut bars go, if you talk to anybody that actually uses their car or a suspension shop, they will tell you they are very important, especially the front one. for the front get the stock one if you want something cheap or an aftermarket one but make sure it mounts to the firewall and doesn't have any parts that can pivot
bad:

good:

hope that helps

^^^ yeah im sure this is one of those topics that is pretty well covered, but ill probably drop the money on the KW's and I guess im still a little bit on the fence with the bars but eventually ill grab em.
put a strut bar on the evo if it wasn't needed
P.S. i'd recommend 8k/10K spring rates, just because u wont need to run a huge rsb or any aftermarket rsb depending on what ur doing with the car and ur driving style

I had a hard time with forum typing when I first started out.
