Talking New here, needing some Evo help!

I should start off by introducing myself

I'm 21 and live in Phoenix AZ. I currently own a 2000 Celica GTS 6 Speed.
This is my 3rd car. First one was a 4 door 06 cobalt (Auto), then went to a 2000 Celica GT (Auto) and now my 2000 Celica GTS.

I've had my GTS for a few months now, and I have some money saved up, and some more coming in. I wanted to boost my GTS, but in the end it would cost me around 5k, and I know I won't be pushing what I would like.

I've been thinking about trading in my Celica and saving up a bit more, and buying myself an Evo VIII or XI. That is why I am here.

I want to know what there is to know about the Evo's.

I know I can do research, but I would rather hear what the community has to say about.

I want an Evo for quite a few reasons. I want a 4 door car, insurance would be fairly cheaper, AWD, something that is factory boosted.

I'm looking for either an Evo VIII MR or IX MR

Reason why I want an MR is not only for looks but for the 6 speed Transmission, I love it in my GTS.

I want to know everything that I need to know before taking the initiative to buying one.

Anything would help guys, I have a lot of questions, but they might just be answered within your replies.

Thanks guys!

Sorry for the wall of text

Here are a few pics of my car:

I like your Celica

There is so much info on this forum. Search it out so you can make a proper decision

(LOL on the insurance will be cheaper due to the 4 doors. Note: Wait till you get the quote. The Ins companies are full aware of the EVO =)

Peace

Why thank you

I could be wrong about the insurance.

I'm doing research as we speak.

As far as I know, the only 6 speeds are the MR's right?

insurance will likely be more, and the 6-speed's (only comes with MR) are a known weakness.

Yep...I plan to race my MR and am saving for a built 5-speed BEFORE my 6-speed craps the bed so at least I can offset the cost of the 5-speed a bit.

If you don't plan to mod or race the MR many will tell you that you are fine with the stock 6-speed.

I wish I would have asked more questions and done more research like you are before purchasing.

So you would suggest a 5 speed? Why is it a known weakness?

I do plan to Mod, to a certain extent. Do the 5 Speed's hold more power compared to the 6 Speed's?

^agree on the insurance part. I picked my evo up at age 21 as well and insurance was over 300 a month. You should start by looking at some of the stickies including the one how to purchase a clean evo. Somone should post the link im too lazy to do so.

Nice celica by the way, I wanted one before I picked up the evolution and I've always like the wingless look of them.

Here's some advice about your choice of wanting a six speed evo, if you plan on pushing the hp limits and torque you will be better off in a 5 speed. Many people will agree that the six speeds don't hold power as well as the 5 speeds.

Yes the 5 speeds hold more power due to the fact the gears are thicker and more beefier... when you have an extra gear in the same area things have to be slightly smaller to fit

Thanks for the info, and the comment, I appreciate it They are pretty light cars, but not much power to them.

I already read up on the, Buying a "clean" evo thread, it was pretty helpful, thanks.

And now that i'm hearing all this, i'm changing my mind on getting a 6 speed.
I don't want to go through the hassle of swapping transmissions down the road.

What is the max power that an Evo can push on stock internals? Motor and trani.
