Talking T04Z/T04R Garrett turbo on an evo9 MR

Has anyone heard/know/has a garrett turbo installed on an evo9 MR and how reliable they are?
I've been told that they break down too easily and too fast, but in what sense, if they really do?
I was initially planning on going with an FP red or FP black, but I found a good deal on the garrett.
Also, upgrades would I need to get for my car to function well.
This would be my daily driver car and I would also like to know how much of a tq/whp increase it gives and mpg, if possible.

Thank you for hearing me out, and thanks for the response!

Search! Check the dyno tuning section and see what people are running. Definitely not that turbo buddy!

Agreed. Out of all the Garretts I would say the 3586 is probably one of the more popular turbos. You see 3582 (which I have) and 30R turbos as well, but not a lot more for the most part. I think it's because a vast majority of Evo owners are more than content with 400-600whp and stock frame turbos can get you there for cheaper than an aftermarket setup. I chose the 35R for it's reliability and it's tried and true, but if I hadn't chosen that, I would most certainly be on some kind of stock frame turbo.

So as a whole, are these reliable?

As a whole, yes. They are very reliable. It all depends on how you treat it and maintain it. Ball-bearing turbos tend to last longer and the Garrets have a good track record.

Yes i know of plenty of t04z's on evo's. Decent turbo if a little old school. Surge Reistance is unsurpassed imo.
