How does a paddle shift works?

I see all lancers model come with a standard paddle shift, and I am going to get one, but I am not sure how it work.
For stick, I can simply switch to the +/- mode and switch back to D mode manually.
What about the paddle shift? I know that I can use the paddle shift all time even in the D mode. However, how to switch it back to D mode. go back to automatic transmission, after I shift once?

Just go test drive one. You will pick it up immediately.

Don't think I would ever go with paddles unless I picked up a GTR, ferrari, lambo, or radical...laggy paddleshift systems = failboat. Although I have heard that the ones in the X's aren't too bad - but break if you try to make real power.

The X has better shifting technology than the Nissan GTR. It's top notch quality
