Hi my name is Amber
Hello everyone,I just bought my rally red evolution 9 yesterday. It took me far too long to just go with my gut and buy one rather than settling for other cars. I plan to make car building a hobby of mine. I don't know a lot but I want to learn so hopefully you guys can bare with me. lol The evolution I bought already has a few mods.......
HTA Green/ 25psi WG
PTE 1000s injectors
Walbro 255 fuel pump
Apexi Turbo back exhaust
Prosport boost/oil pressure gauges
AEM Wideband
Perrin filter
AMS Front motor mount
ACT 6puck, Comp lightweight flywheel
JDM Tailights
XS Power Intercooler
ETS Short route w/mini battery
Brand new drilled slotted front rotors
Hawk HPS pads
Brand new Potenza Grid tires
Tein Springs on stock struts
I plan to add an o2 housing, upgrade the intercooler, better exhaust, and I might change turbo too. I tried to upgrade pictures but it wouldn't attach them. I'll try again later.

Welcome to the forum. Might not be a bad idea to do something about the Tein springs, too.
oh yeah I forgot about those, thanks. Do you have any opinions on what to do. Would you get coil overs for it or just replace the.....gosh I don't remember what they are called. The things that take up the force to keep the car from bouncing that the springs rest on. I know having coil overs would allow me to lower and raise the car. Still what would you do?

This being said, my needs are probably different than yours. How do you plan to use the car and what would you like to get out of a suspension upgrade? Do you mostly drive on the street? You mention lowering. How important is that to you?
I would buy a set of (MR) Bilsteins from the classifieds, send them to Bilstein to be revalved for GTWorx spings, add a set of front and rear anti-swaybars, and a roll center kit.

I'm mostly going to keep it on the streets. I know the owner before me took it on the track once. Should I just replace the struts that take the shock of the springs? Ok so you said maybe consider buying some MR Bilsteins, and some anti-swaybars and a roll center kit, well can you explain what that will do. I can imagine it makes the suspension stiffer, right? Oh and I really don't care much about lowering it I just want whats best for the car. lol

^^ and there it is. waiting for that comment. I hope one of these days someone comes in and it turns out to be a dude.
anyway, welcome to the forums, congrats on the purchase.
listen to FJF, good advice. honestly if your going to be just keeping it to the streets and dont have any plans to track it, then the best (comfort/balanced car) would be what he said, the Bilsteins, some GTworx/robi/swift springs, RC kit, and some matching sway bars that allow you to adjust based on driving style and preference.
the coilovers that are worth buying (as everyone here will tell you) are going to be up around 2500-3k to be set up proper.
why are you upgrading your IC if you already have an AMS ?
personal preference, totally up to what you like, I would get rid of the HPS pads (after there toast, no point and throwing away new pads for DD) and look into something with a little better braking coefficient.
how old is the fp green? if its in good condition thats a pretty great street turbo. if your going to upgrade, any idea what your considering? assuming street you want fast spool good mid range. Stock cams? 9 cams are great for turbos like the green, may consider doing valvetrain and cams if you go bigger.
anyway, welcome aboard and post pics of the car asap! cheers

As it stands, the Tein springs you have are arguably the worst available for this platform. They're too low and too soft. As such, your struts may not be in great shape. If your struts are, indeed, in good condition consider a set of GTWorx springs. If your struts are shot, you don't have a lot of options: There are the OEM struts (KYB and Bilstein), Bilstein offers an aftermarket set that trickles into the US in relatively small quantities, and then there are coilovers which is a whole other ball of wax.
This is what I would suggest for you, as you'd like what's best for the car:
1. Determine the condition of your stock struts.
2. If they're in good shape, opt for a set of GTWorx springs, get a good alignment from a shop that understands suspensions and call it a day. Your car will feel transformed.
3. If the struts are shot, the best thing to do is to look for a set of MR Bilsteins in the classifieds - they come up often - and have them revalved for the GTWorx springs. In essence, you'd have a brand new suspension. On the chance that you find a set of MR Bilsteins with low miles in the classifieds, it does happen, then install a set of GTWorx spings without revalving. It won't make a nigh and day difference.
Hello Mrs. Whispering Eye!!
It's OEM~KaOs from the MNHondas forum!
Let's see some pics of that Evo that don't suck cause the seller took terrible pics!!
hahaha
And I can vouch for what FJF said about Tein's, they came on my car and I absolutely hate them...just don't have the cash to change them out or get a nice suspension going ATM, but it needs to be done and it'll get there.
Welcome to the forum, and I'll be seeing you around at some events hopefully!
edit - very glad you went with the Evo over the Mugen Si!! I'm sure you are as well! Haha

To your ? anti-swaybars and a roll center kit will totally stiffen up your ride. And beyond that when used in a kit conjunction like say the stuff that WHITELINE makes, their product will dramatically improve the overall geometry of the way you car drives. Also, I believe the bump steer corrects a lot of the understeer/oversteer that track EVO's are famous for. When I did mine the car felt REALLY touchy at first when I would steer. It is trully night a day difference from the stock configuration whether on the track or even if you just like diving in and out of on/off ramps on the freeway you will immediately notice the difference in control... the car just grabs and holds. So much that you don't even need to hold the steering wheel with the 2 handed white knuckle death grip.... you can just drive. My 2c

Well hello its nice to see a familar face! lol Just trying to learn about the evolution so I figured on my down time I'd do some posts on here. The guys on here seem to know a thing or too. lol Yea I'll prob replace the Teins soon. Brandon told me that it seemed like the struts are getting worn. You'll def see me at events I have to show off my beauty!!!!! lol
And I'm so glad I went with the evolution! I LOVE IT!
search search and search some more.
read new posts here every day.
if you don't have an alarm system then GET A TOP NOTCH ALARM SYSTEM RIGHT THIS INSTANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
after searching for hard driven daily driver, I went with GTWorx/Bilstein HDs, the lowest drop possible (I like hard elevation changes). added in whiteline 24" rear bar, rear bump steer, and rear trailing arm bushings, as per Andrew at GTWorx recommendations.
according to legend this will result in a more civilized ride around town, less body roll AND perform must better at the limits of braking and cornering. the best of both worlds for a DD. my install is scheduled for next Thursday.

x3845345 on the Tein's
I had them on my evo, they blew out my struts pretty bad... to the point where I had to upgrade faster then expected. I bought a set of the ISC coilovers from the group buy, installed em monday, I love em so far, still working out a few kinks but they are 1000x better then the teins on stock struts
Why would you change the turbo I must ask? Many of us here would love to have that turbo under our hoods!
Either way, Welcome and congrats on the purcharse

+1 on what FJF is saying but then again from what I have read of his posts he kind of a track junkie so as he stated his needs may differ from yours though I will say I appreciate good handling as much as he does so he is giving you good guidance.

Ok well I know a little more than the typical noob! lol Ok so as far as keeping it on the street vs track.... for now I'm keeping it on the streets just to have a little fun with but slowly I want to build it for the track. I know these cars and make a 1000hp and how awesome would that be.
