First off welcome to the forum, I'm new to this forum myself and great post on purchasing an Evo. Plus mad props on being a female that knows more than the basics and can handle over a 400hp car well. 1000hp I've read is that something you're still trying to achieve or was it a random idea that came to mind? What's your Evo currently tuned on or is it a ECU-reflash?

In regards to cams I keep hearing that Kelford's 272's are awesome, but HKS are fairly cheap and can get the job done to pass by.

Welcome Amber.

You've come to the right place for Evo advice, however I think you should go out and do a whole lot of driving your car first on some windy roads (be safe), maybe do some autocross, or just some agressive playing in an empty parking lot. See what you like and don't like about the car, then post here with the results and the experts can suggest how to get to what you want.

Evo's can do a lot of things, but it's kind of pointless to throw money into it unless you know what you want first. I owned a stock Evo VIII for 5 years. It was my daily driver and occasionally I'd AutoX it. I upgraded the tires and sound system in it with a really nice system, but I was happy with the car how it was. Stock Evos are already rocketships.

This time around, I'm a better driver, and want more performance. I'm buying a 2012 GSR and bringing it up to 400HP with some bolt ons, then seeing how I like it before doing anything else. The reality of driving year round in Northern Va snow, speedbumps and potholes is such that lowering it just doesn't make sense, and it's stiff and low enough for AutoX weekends.

My question is if your boyfriend owns a shop, what advice is he giving you? You are getting alot of information here, but just curious to know what he thinks.

Whats the shop name? What kind of cars does this shop generally work on?

Sorry it's been a while since I've been on here. Thank you for all the responses it's nice to know you all are being helpful. I plan to be in a lot of events this year. I'm going to do a hill climb, then some autocross stuff to get the feel of my car and see where I want to take it when it comes to building it.

My Boyfriend owns a shop called Renown Performance and he sells parts mainly and only does large builds. Currently he is building a Evolution 8. He really doesn't say much about my car because he wants me to learn for myself. He gives me suggestions every now and then but tells me to do research.

Welcome fellow MN. EVO owner... Bryce's Evo? Correct?... Now I remember your thread over on EvoMN

I'm from MN as well with a WW IX.

Are you going to be at MAP's Proving Grounds this year for their annual autocross/drag/road racing event?? It's at Brainard International Raceway. I've been there the last two years, and it's an AWESOME event! You really get to see these Evos strut their stuff!!

I believe I've heard of Renown... I know MAP, RS Motors and DBPerformance are mostly the GO TO performance shops for some of us Evo owners here in Minnesota.

Welcome aboard, glad to see you taking such a passion in Evos! You've got a great site here to help you express that passion AND learn quite a bit as well.... Good luck with the build!!!
