- How likely are drivers of this vehicle to crash? Given that the Lancer Evolution claims the top spot on the Highway Loss Data Institute's list, you can be sure that the Lancer has more accidents than other vehicles and that these accidents result in more costly damages than those involving other vehicles. More frequent and more costly accidents mean more risk for insurers, and that translates into higher premiums for drivers.
- How high is this vehicle's theft risk? Sporty, foreign cars are at an especially high risk for auto theft because they are always in demand and have very valuable parts. This makes them a gold mine for auto thieves, and a potential financial disaster for insurers. To mitigate this risk, insurers raise premiums.
- How much would this vehicle cost to repair or replace? Because the Lancer is a fairly expensive foreign vehicle, it's a safe assumption that it will cost more to repair or replace than other cars. It requires imported parts and generally costs more than most vehicles.
I can sympathize with the OP. Once upon a time, I was young too. I remember wanting to buy a muscle car when I was 17 and my dad, who was an insurance agent, got heart palpitations just thinking about it. So, I bought a car that was kosher with the insurance company and began to modify the car myself. It actually was a great learning experience. And, I paid for that car and every other car I have ever owned myself. No living off daddy's largesse. Even with me paying for a car and insurance myself, my dad would not let me get a performance car until I was 21 and going to college. Then, my sisters worked on him day and night, doing mock 4 speed shifts. Finally, he relented and let me buy a '69 427 Corvette roadster. After that, he admitted that performance was fun and the car was kind of cool. Hang in there OP, your day in the sun will come!
Is this a serious thread?
I don't mean to bash, but I'm with the other 95% in this thread, if you can't afford to buy it on your own, it's probably not the car for you. Especially if you're a new driver with only a few years experience behind the wheel. Seems like an accident waiting to happen.
I saved money for a couple years before I bought my first EVO.

Best piece of advice....don't ask. Your parents shouldn't be paying for your car to begin with! You should, and I think you shouldn't be looking at this car to transport younger siblings in, it isn't safe, nor is it practical.
