converting auto to manual
converting auto to manual
when i bought my car (used), i waited a while for the local dealers to just get a yellow lancer, like i wanted, let alone a stick...so i finally folded and got the auto. just curious if anyone has converted their auto to a manual and if so, how much they paid. a kid i know did it to his civic a while ago, but that's the only source of info i have. i doubt i'll go through with this, but i just wanted the info in case i came up with the money...i'd definitely rather have a stick...or paddle shifters...damn that would be awesome
Please search before posting new threads. This topic has been covered many times. It was concluded that it is FAR too expensive to convert an auto to a manual. Your best bet is to trade in the car for a manual and take the loss in price.
I think it can be done, and ... was mentioned on here before. But... i think someone said liek 600$ or something around that but it will give you lots of problems in the future and not be worth it in the long run.
Not sure, just what i remember hearing.

Just find a wreck lancer.
Take out the transmission and all the parts for the interior of transmission. ****** the ECU out of it too, you will need that.
If you knwo how to take the tran out, you oculd possibly do it yourself.
Maybe a shop could do it. One of my friends told me he knows someone who had a Nissan done for $1,500 without and parts to lay out for it. The shop did it all themselves.
It could last a long time, I don't think anyone has done it yet, so no one knows for sure.
If I ever come across a junkyard Lancer I am deffiently taking everything. My friend works at a junkyard and I could possibly just get it from him. Maybe $100-$200 for he parts from a junkyard?

Tell me how you figure $3000... im sure lots of other people want to know. I've talked to some employees down at RRM (Road Race Motorsports) and they tell me it would be in upwards of 5 grands. Any shop that doesnt know what they are doing will prolly charge you around 6 grand or so.

here's what i had to change on my old integra.
ecu
shift linkage w/ shifter
5speed flywheel
5speed tranny
clutch cable
now take into consideration that honda's axels are the same (5speed and auto). and also take into consideration that the automatic tranny is bigger, therefore the tranny mount should be a couple inches higher than the 5speed. meaning your axles are not going to balance out properly.....meaning you CANNOT beat on the car at all. you snap the tranny side axles like crazy (well at least thats the case with honda's, but i'm pretty sure it'll apply to most cars). trust me i've been through it, and in the end it is DEFINATELY not worth it. save yourself the headache and just buy a 5speed.
on a final note. the ONLY reason why its semi possible on honda's is because there are soooooo many of them in junk yards where parts are ALWAYS available. so yeah like Iamkar33m said its going to be EXPENSIVE.
