Smile No more Honda for me, new to the Lancer world!!!

Hello! My name is Alberto, 21, I work at TCF Bank as a teller and i live in the suburbs of Chicago, IL.

I had been a hardcore Honda fan for a while, my first car was a civic:

Then i EVEN TRADED it for this 94 Teggy

biggest mistake EVER, engine blew up had to replace that, fuel lines, pump, entire brake system, electrical... EVERYTHING that can go wrong with a car did.

It finally died and i auctioned it off and got $1100 for it.

So 7 28 12 my friend and i were cruising and decided to stop by the Mitsubishi dealer.

I came in walking and drove out on a brand new 2012 Lancer ES. $2500 down, $249 a month for 72 months.

I already did one thing to it, i blacked out where the plate is to give it that evo look haha.

I also ordered 6000k HIDs.

Then i am buying these off a friend and painting them black in about 3-5 weeks

then fog lights, yellow tint
mudflaps
and slight tint on windows

and finally coilovers, but those wont happen for a long time!

Anyways, so far i am LOVING the car, the clutch is so nice and it feels so steardy, i love it. Mitsubishi officially wont my heart.

Congrats. You look super happy in the photo with you in front of your beautiful car. About the only dislike I have is seeing you stuck for payments of $249 for 72 months, which is 6 years. Having done the car payment thing many times, I can tell you that after a couple of years and when the car does not look showroom new, it can be tough to have to keep making payments. Nevertheless, enjoy your new car. Wheels look good. Post up pics when you get them mounted.

oh yeah , i am seriously extatic, i seriously just love this car so far. And i know, i mean depreciation is going to suck and it wont look too awesome by the time im finished patying it off, but the way i look at it is that in the Integra i spent over $5k in repairs... i honestly wont mind investing money into this beauty.

And btw, blacking out the plate area to give it that evo look. Is that acceptable amongst Lancer owners or is it considered rice? Like i said, im new to Mitsubishi haha

No, I don't think it would look like rice. Use plastidip. If you don't like how it looks, just peel it off. It will actually leave a very nice finish. I did my wheels and hood scoop on my Evo X. And yes, it will give it more of an Evo look, which is not a bad thing.

Congrats!!!
No, being a ricer means you sacrific performance for looks. The Evo X I bought has lowering springs that were cut....what a donkey. And he's right, it's your car, make it look like you want it too. CF always adds an aggressive look and is a weight reduction.

Congrats on the car, you do look very excited in your pic! GL and do your car anyway you want. Dont think you will need coils for your es a good set of springs will give you better performance and a nice stance.

I literally LOL'd when I saw your pick.

Congrats on your purchase. Mitsu can suck at times because they have very high depreciation in their vehicles. I bought a new Eclipse for about $30k. About 3 years later it was worth half that. The only way I had got out from under the payment is by paying it off with a $15k lump sum. I'm hoping the Evo's don't depreciate nearly that quickly. But if you continue to love the car then who cares how much it depreciates (as long as you have gap). Just make sure you don't go to crazy on the mods. Don't do anything that might risk voiding your warranty.

I use to not like seeing the Lancers with the blacked out front. But I believe thats how the new GT's are if I'm correct. So I say go for it if that's what you want. It can't really be "rice" if Mitsu is doing it on there stock lancers. Just do a good job. I saw one at Walmart not long ago and this dude spray painted it. It was chipping and un-even and simply looked horrible.

Again congrats.

No offense, but how would adding a cf lip or rear spoiler reduce weight? Yes, if he replaced the hood, trunk and doors, then he would lose weight, but usually people add cf pieces, which means they will slightly gain weight.

The OP can dress us the car to his tastes w/o spending a ton of money. If I were him, I would look at the Lancer builds. There are some pretty sharp Lancers out there. Wheels of course will be the most dramatic change and the ones he got will look *****in' on his car. Black out the grille, add a front lip, add window tint, and maybe a cat-back and call it a day. The car will look aggressive, sound more aggressive and the OP will have many smiles on his face.

CF is renowned at being lighter and stronger then most OEM parts, and again, it looks nice. Having a CF rear defuser is a nice upgrade, I've seen it and I liked it a lot.
But it's up to him, I'm just spit-balling.
And none taken, I'm here to learn new things and meet new people

The Lancer does not use a diffuser like the Evo. The OEM piece is very light. CF has a negligible decrease in weight over the aluminum hood, fenders, trunk and roof. I think I read where a dry carbon fiber roof only weighs one pound less than the factory aluminum roof. Remember that the OP has a Lancer and I don't think he is going to replace his hood, doors or trunk with dry cf. So, if he buys parts, he will add a slight amount of weight.
