Serious question about Evo 9
New to this forum so I just wanted to hear what you guys thought.. I am looking to purchase a Evo 9 with 41k / full bolt on and 272 cams. For 20k. Really good friend of mine. The only thing is the car has sat for about 8 months ... He says the only thing wrong with it is it needs a new timing belt.. Is it worth it and will the cars performance be a issue because of it sitting???
The guy got a 2011 mr an a truck he said after the belt snapped he just didn't want to mess with it. Honestly he's a big boy and lazy lol.
Good Luck. I'd offer him 16k as you are going to be in A FEW thousand on rebuilding the motor.
At that price I'd could see making a deal provided the rest of the car checks out

"only thing"

and a new valvetrain! Offer him $15k. He's selling an Evo 9 with a blown motor and who knows what else. How do you blow a timing belt at 41k anyways? Oh, thats right, you mess up a cam install If you buy this, you guys aren't going to be friends anymore
He parked the car and left it over a snapped serp belt??
$40 part and a 20 min job if that?? Did it overheat because of it??
Have never seen an Evo snap a serp belt ever. If the car was parked long term over a broken serp belt I would recommend having someone who knows this platform inspect it head to toe.

all i can say is i got my evo with a blown motor (and re-built it) it was sitting in a field in the back of a dealership for almost 2 years before i rescued it. I changed all fluids after the build i mean every single fluid and it runs mint..no problems with the belt or nothing to this day. just make sure you change all fluids and inspect it before you buy it, also try starting it up with a new belt before buying it. its cheap and takes minutes to install..
