Looking for an Evo need advice

I'm currently looking for a lancer and have discovered my price range will only allow me to get one with higher mileage.

I found a 05 Evo 8 with 85k on it for 12 thousand.

Its very lightly modified. Intercooler, bov, intake setup and cam gears. Its been well serviced and I will be able to spend afew thousand on it over the next year.. cams possibly vavles.

I will be using it for a daily driver and I really do want an evo more than any other car, I'm currently in an 06 Z and hate it.

Its in excellent condition, in and out, including the engine bay. If it drives up to standard would it be a good purchase or should I expect problems sometime soon?

I wont be going to the track, just spirited runs every now and then and a friendly race if it presents itself. I'm the type to baby a car 90% of the time.

What do you guys think?

sounds like a to good to be true type of deal. i got my 03 with 72k for 12 and found out it had some problems. all said and done it will be 15k before the car runs solid. all im saying is make sure you have the car looked at before you buy it by someone who knows these cars good. Theres a lot of scammers involved with these cars, be careful.

Mistake on my part.. hes asking 14k, a different one I was looking at was 12.. I would know bad engine noise when I hear it and I'm going to go see it tomorrow. I'm no mechanic but I can easily pick out sounds that don't belong and I have a good idea of how it should drive.

What are some typical problems to listen and feel for?

A plus is all scheduled maintenance has been completed

I plan on saving up for the basic AMS rebuild kit or atleast the BC cam&valve set just because I want the insurance of a strong motor.. I don't plan on going over 450hp or anything, just want good strong reliable evo.

Dodged a bullet there didn't you. Electrical problems and fire don;t bode well for cars usually. That would've been a nightmare.

Good Luck with the search! Make sure you check all of the parts on the car having matching VIN#s. Mine I bought used had a clean carfaq but I didn't realize the hood has a VIN# as well - low and behold it doesn't match.

Also check the jacking points on the frame rails - if they are beat to hell - chances are the car's been modified a ton or was consistently being worked on to fix problems.
