Soon to be EVO 9 owner question

Hey guys,

I am looking to purchase a EVO 9 MR, waiting for the right one to come around. My question is what mileage is considered high? Most I see for sale locally and on line have any where from 50k-90k miles on them. I generally wouldn't purchase a car of it's age with that mileage on it but it seems like they stand up to abuse?

Thanks for any help.

Sal

I got my IX Mr w 60k miles and I've put about 15k on it. I know the previous owner drove it aggressive and I drive it as my daily. I drive pretty aggressive so you should be good. They are amazingly robust vehicles if you take care of maintenance.

Just make sure that you test drive the car and you pay close attention to sounds (transmission, whines, etc). Also if you buy from a private seller have them drive a bit so u can see their driving habits, shifting etc. I don't think mileage matters as much as getting an idea for the previous owners habits. Good luck and happy hunting

I got my 9 with 51k everything was in great condition until 2 month later my 3rd started grinding, but to me it didn't really bother me cuz I was planning to rebuild it anyways. So what I suggest is have that mind set when you buy the car that it has been aggressively driven, modded and just abused at a point. Cuz you have no idea what the last owner has done. An of it makes any noise or something just seems little off, DON'T GET iT lol. Be patient an wait tell the best comes along

Why is it that you're considering an MR? is it because of the name or for useful reasons? I see WAY TOO MANY evo noobs wanting an MR over the gsr just because of the top gear video, once you research the reasons why a gsr is superior for a majority of reasons performance included, you will see. Please disregard this comment if I've offended you or you think I'm calling you a noob, I just want to help and assure that you're making an educated decision

The gsr five speed trans if far superior as far as the ability to take abuse, the six speed case is the same size as the five speed, meaning the gears are thinner to fit the extra gear, meaning less surface area to distribute stress, meaning.....

Thanks all for the quick replies.

Rawger,
Exactly what I have in my mind, someone beating the hell out of it haha. Really wouldn't be good to purchase something and have major problems a couple months after. Kinda what makes me think twice about purchasing after hearing the mileage doesn't seem to be a issue.

Evodriver49,

The reason why I want the MR is the 6 speed tranny.

Thanks again all

Don't do six speed if you plan on making above 380 wtrq, the thing that really hurts these gearboxes is overheating, thus resulting gear failure.

I bought mine with 100K on it and no issues. Mileage should not matter, how veh was taken care of should matter.

I agree with you man, again no disrespect to you but very true. I wanted a mr at first but then researched more an learned that the 6 speed isn't the way to go for doing big mods an power so I stuck to the 5speed. But again it comes down to whats your goal with the car. Good luck though and to me smart choice on the 9 I like them way more then the X.
