A few questions about modding the Evo X

Hello all,

I'm new to the Evo community and thus my Evo and have a few questions. I came over from the DSM community but things seem a bit more...complex here especially considering my car is still under warranty.

I have planned any major mods but I was still thinking of doing the old Intake/exhaust combo and a tune since all the mod threads around here seem to recommend it.

My questions are as follows:

When it comes to a tune and an ECU reflash, is it possible to swap maps out on the fly? For instance, could I get my car tuned, then reflash between the stock and tuned maps? If I did get a tune, would that void my warranty even if I did flash the car back to stock before I took it in?

What are the most basic mods I should do outside of intake, exhaust? Boost controller, tune and ???

I have the SE model with the SST tranny, if modding for just slight power gains (300-330) should I do anything to the tranny?

I'm sure these are questioned asked before but as much reading as I have done, I haven't found much to answer my questions, no matter how simple they are.

Thanks for your time.

First off, you can't actually void a warranty.
https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...lly-works.html

Secondly, yes, on the fly map switching is possible. The easiest way is to use a Cobb AP. There are however less expensive and more involved way (Tactrix cable, evoscan).

Third, yes you can f up warranty claims if you're not careful. When you flash the ECU it stores a code for that flash. When you flash it back you need to be certain you flash it back to the factory code not just factory settings. These are not one in the same. One of the major benefits to the Cobb AP is that it does this automatically when you uninstall it, and it takes like 30 seconds.

Those really are your basic mods. Intake, cat delete/high flow cat, boost controller, tune. Maybe an intercooler (and piping) and BOV.

And no, 300-330ish should be safe for your SST as long as you're not constantly beating the **** out of it.
