Question Reliable Daily Driver

Hi, I'm Qamar and new to this forum. I'm starting this thread because I'm considering buying an Evo (8 or 9) and have a few questions. I plan to use the evo as a daily driver and want to know how much power can I make while maintaining reliability. I want to make between 400-500 hp, can this be done still on pump gas and a stock block? thanks for the help.

400 yes, 500 look into upgrading but it's okay. P.s. Search is your friend (even google)

Thanks, should I also look into transmission upgrades? I've also heard about evos having problems with axles but I think that's when you plan to make serious power and boost. And to make 400 hp will I have to upgrade from stock turbo or could I increase the boost on the stock turbo?

For what it's worth, I daily drive my IX RS...and have for four years...70 miles round trip. Totally, 100% reliable, legal, and looks completely stock. It currently puts down 443 whp on a dynapack with E85 and BBK full. Stock block (no cams) and the usual bolt-on's. On 93 octane I'd imagine you'd need cams and some extra work...

If you treat it with respect and drive it "hard" without abusing it, you'll be fine. No need for a transmission upgrade with 400...maybe just an upgraded clutch. With that much power it's easy to get into trouble, out of trouble, and have loads of fun on your commute. Honestly, with 300whp you'd still have lots of fun...

Learn all you can before diving in too far. Good luck and have fun!

Thanks again, one more question; on another forum I've seen some people talking about IveyTuning. Has anybody here dealt with this guy before? Because I really don't know of any tune shops in NJ that are reputable when it comes to Evos.

you should be able to make a tad bit more power because i believe you have 93 octane there.

I have an 05 and I've driven it back and forth between NYC and VA without any problems, 7 hours one way. Although I'm only at 300whp, I don't see why you can't make a reliable 400whp on pump gas on a stock block. 500 and up is when you really want to start building up the block, i.e. crank, rods and such.

Time for bigger injectors and a fuel pump. Mellon tuned me for 19psi stock turbo, down from the 21psi I was at before because it got too lean. But DW 1000cc injectors and 320lph fuel pump will fix that.

I've heard I can I use a FP Green or FP Red turbo to reach this power goal, is this true? And what makes these FP turbo's different from lets say a gt35r?

IveyTuning is a good well known shop. Search around and you'll find them on here as well

I've researched the TOMEI arms turbo kit. It says it produces more than 400 hp which is within my area, but if use the TOMEI arms kit, can I just replace the stock turbo without having the change the block? I'm sure I may have to upgrade fuel injectors and a new clutch but i dont know if anything in the block itself should be replaced to ensure reliability.
