Depends on where you live. Different areas have different octanes available. Not a dumb question.

the octane rating is derived from some equation that i dont really know but basically, the higher the number is, the harder the gasoline is to combust under pressure.

once you start upgrading parts you should go higher octane

like with the rrm piggyback you need 91 i think. you get better gas mileage with a higher octane as well plus a little better performance

it wont perform at optimum performance. the piggyback was programmed to run 91 octane fuel.

octane vs. gas mileage. in california gas prices are at almost 2bucks a gallon for 87 octane. does anyone really know the ratios on how much higher octane improves mileage? is it cost effective to run high octane fuel in a stock motor? personally it seems that i get a bit more power when i run 91 octane, but i dont notice the differance in mileage.

i notice i burn more fuel alot faster when i go with higher octane gas. the higher the octane, the richer you run.. am i correct?

which gas you use really shouldn't make a difference in your gas mileage or a change in your performance..the octane ratings are there because some cars need higher octane fuel to stay away from dangerous detonations and such.

the reason why the piggyback ECU requires (or recommends) 91 octane is because of the changes in timing. i dont know the small details of this but that's the basics right there..

NO, not at all! the valves on our stock engine werent meant to burn anything above 87 octane. you will get the best performance and best gas mileage out of it.
