Aftermarket exhausts... is there really a performance diffence between them?

I'm trying to plan how I'm going to upgrade my evo...

One of the first things I'm planninng on doing is getting an aftermarket exhaust system.

I met a guy named "Nate" at S-Squared - a tuner shop in Sacramento today. He will put on whatever exhaust system I want to buy or will fabricate a custom exhaust for me as well.

I've heard some good things about him from several people.

My question is - is there really that much of a performance difference between the different aftermarket exhaust systems, or for the most part are the different 3" exhaust systems going to perform about the same?

After I put my A'pexi N1 exhaust on my car...it felt like a completely different car. So yes, an aftermarket exhaust system will make a considerable difference in your cars performance.

the question is is there that much of a difference between different aftermarket exhausts?

as long as its 3 inch i dont see how exhausts could vary much in performance , why dont you have him build you a custom 3" with a light strong metal with as minimal bends as possible. thats what i'd do , other than that , search and read a few reviews on exhausts... as long as its a trusted company by the evo owners such as buschur or vishnu itd be fine

hp will all be close...aslong as there a straight thru muffler and 3" piping...but build quality should be a issue too....look around on the forums and c if any1 is having problems like rusting, bad welds, rattling, exessive noise...stuff like that

thanks guys, thats kind of wha I wanted to know. I'm inclined to have him make me a custom exhaust. Seems like as long as he does quality work, it should work as well as any other!

I bought a used custom made mandrel bent catback using Apexi n1 exhaust...

The only draw back on my setup is it has one connnection and its at the cat,one solid piece...Which is good in a way since there is less chance of a leak...

The guy had it made at CHINO VALLEY MUFFLER and honestly Ive never seen welds so good and it it really straight, with JDM angle.... JDM angle technique offers the most minimal bends as the exhaust exits but Ive seen bushur setup and thats really straight also and has normal look.

I recommend Chino Valley Muffler as I have seen the quality they do with my setup and sounds very quet not loud at all...

All 3inch exhaust should flow about the same but differenece is how light the exhaust are and the SOUND the exhaust makes which in my almost quieter then stock if you can believe it very minimal...

Go for custom made if the price is right, just dont get custom made if the price equals a catback you couldve of bought .

Mine's stock as a rock too, and every dyno sheet I have seen tells me to do the exhaust first. I'm an all or nothing, perfectionist kind of guy. Consequently, I want a full turbo-back so I don't have to **** with a different downpipe, and a cat made by so-and-so, and this muffler, etc. I have been looking at the one from Extreme Motorsports. (http://www.extrememotorsports.com/gecat/exhaust.htm) I have heard excellent things about them for a long time. I was going to get some of their stuff to build up my 93 GSX but ended up selling it before I could get the chance. Does anyone have any feedback about EMS, or know of a really good turbo-back system?

Dude, buy a 3" exhaust. There are so many available. Don't bother having someone fabricate it. Check out the HKS Hi-Power series. Very high quality and nice sounding. I love it.

The exhaust I linked to is a 3" exhaust. It's not fabricated expressly for me EMS has started to produce them. The problem with HKS is that they only have a cat-back system that I am aware of. I really want to get the whole thing done and for around a grand, I can't really see a better deal. Hell HKS cat-back systems are almost that much and then I gotta find a downpipe that I like and make sure it'll fit the cat-back system and all.

Huh? My HKS Hi-Power was $480. Add a HKS downpipe for $330. That's a little over $800 for high quality equipment. Sure the HKS carbon fiber/titanium sustem is about $800 alone, but the reg Hi-power is the same without the polished midpipe and carbon wrapped muffler. Then you can bolt on a hi flow cat or test pipe.

Yeah, that's true but the Titanium was the one that I was referring to when I made my last post. I've seen the Greddy Ti. for almost a grand too. Evomoto's got it for $959, and they sell the HKS HI Power for $529 and the Ti. for $770. Plus over $300 for their downpipe. I was also looking at the JIC Ti. form MVP, but they want over $1100. Also, the cheapest high flow cat that I've seen was $145, that was from Boost Solutions I think. Like I said for a turbo-back I haven't found anything that can compete with the Extreme Motorsports one as far as price is concerned.
