Wanting an Evo VIII or IX!

Okay so currently i own a 2006 gto (paid off) and a 2010 mazda 3 (ex-wife still has, will change soon and not paid off yet). i REALLY want a evo, always have. Just curious of anything to look out for, any mods that are terrible, common tings that go wrong that i should look into before buying one, also any general knowledge about evo's i should know. Im not an idiot when it comes to car but im not genius either haha. plus iv been learning stuff about a 6.0L V8 that is NA, so im sure the mod scene is way different, but thats for after i buy the car. mainly curious about things to look out for when it comes to common small problems that can be really annoying when it comes to EVO's

P.S. thanks in advance for info

Compression test. Just my .02 cents. Make sure all cylinders are running correctly.

sounds like compression seems to be a hot topic when buying used evo. any idea how much a compression test will cost?

If you do it as part of the deal with a dealership it won't cost you anything. If you have a reliable shop do it....roughly around $50-$75. It's a good thing to do, to make sure no one is selling you an Evo with some busted cylinders.

carfax, check for previous accidents...

common places to look for are:

1. hood hinges for creases
2. roof bends
3. radiator support bends
4. frame (you can check this by getting under the car)
5. check the paint match between what's inside the gas cover, if looks different then it's been repainted

also....

check for rust in the strut towers, get under the car again, and check floor pans.

and yes....

get a compression test. very important.

Wouldn't hurt to check the VIN sticker on each body panel. They should match all the way around the car (assuming no panels have been replaced....)

When under the car check for leaks. When I bought mine I didn't realize the transfercase was leaking. After about a month I had the infamous "death whine."
