New to Evo!!

Hey guys, im new to the Evo group. I bought an 05 Evo 8 with 75k miles. Are there any common problems associated with this specific year and model. Anything I should get checked? Any common known issues with this car?

Not really any big problem areas with the evo. Just regular maintenance, which can be pricey. The awd system has a lot of very expensive parts so be good about fixing things if they come up, before they cause a chain reaction and break even more expensive stuff. Never skimp on quality fluids. Never skimp on tires either.

Just make sure the 60K service was done. timing belts, fluids, waterpump, etc.

Good Luck with it.

Nice selection my man. The 8 was my favorite of all of them.

I have the exact same year with the exact same miles right now. Im not sure of a lot of common problems, but i know the clutch is a BIG problem. They burn out pretty quick in this car. I've heard that the problem is just that the manufacture did a bad job of diverting heat away from the clutch. Some other problems ive had personally is my alternator just went out, and its a nightmare to find somewhere that has them in stock, so i have to special order it. Another issue ive been having is a 5th gear grind, i might need to replace the synchro, and thats really the only major issues ive ever had. Other than that just be ready for high insurance rates and maintenance. Hope this helps!

I would say, most often, driver error and improper install leads to premature clutch wear...I had my oem clutch past 70K and I now have approx. 100K on my ACT HDSS clutch....It's all how you drive..

Everyone has a different story about the reliability of their evos so you will hear how much of a pain in the *** it can be to own one and how AWESOME it is to own one....stay on top of your maintenance and fluid changes and you should be good to go.
