When I accelerate hard and my turbo kicks in it revs up high at like 5k rpm and then after a second it finally starts accelerating. Whats wrong with my car? I have an 2003 evo 8

 

going off a very vague description, id say its clutch slip. the smell would be the clutch plate slipping.
simple ways of testing clutch slip is go for a drive put it in 3rd/4th gear at low speed, and put your foot down. if your revs start to climb rapidly and speed stays the same or increases irregularlly to the rpm best bet would be clutch. take it in to a shop and they'll be able to tell you 100% if clutch or not

I went with a competition stage 3 clutch and ultra light weight fly wheel

 

tell us how it feels after you get that in.

 

The clutch was out of stock and it could take a month to get so I'm thinking of going with and act street hd clutch
