How did you afford your EVO X?
I know this is sort of a personal question for some people but to the one's who are willing to answer, please do! So how did you afford your EVO X? Did you trade, worked your butt off, etc?
I'm 18 and also trying to buy a EVO X with in the next 5 months and I still need about 4 grand. Should be interesting! Let me know
Sorry if this was a topic already, I'm super new to the site!

Drove a beat up sentra to college.
While studying keep dreaming about the 4-door Mitsubishi appeared in various rally events around the globe and some Jackie Chan Cannonball movies.
While studying also love the Mirage/Colt turbo here in the US but can't afford it.
Got a computer science degree.
The Evo was still nowhere insight and the Mirage/Colt turbo are discontinued.
Finally the Subaru was here, and a year later it was here. Got it in a heartbeat paid MSRP no negotiation needed.
Got another one... and another one. Still love it.

I agree with one of the guys above. Higher goals should come first. The EVO will come later. Invest the money and buy a beater
Buuuuuuuuuuuuuut in the spirit of the post, I work overseas and make quite a bit. After I got back I just decided to get the car I always wanted and bought the X. Although I'd like to stress I'm 25 and financially stable. The X is a lot of money, not just buying, but insurance wise (especially under 25 at least for me) and maintenance.

Having the means to purchase the car is one thing, but many folks in your situation overlook the cost of ownership aspect. These cars tend to have a higher insurance premium than most others (especially if the person is a much younger driver, such as yourself - the cost doubles or triples). Aside from insurance, you also have maintenance costs, which for your case maybe quite substantial since you'll be getting into an older Evo with a fair amount of miles. Then, depending on driving habits, you also need to consider the amount of fuel the vehicle uses, which is another cost.
Good luck on your journey.

I know how to do all the service repairs + my brother is a mechanic. I know the insurance is high and Ill be paying that myself. I've looked into this a lot and i want to take this on. I've talked to my guy at the dealer ship and there's a 08 EVO X with 40,000km(24,000 miles) in my price range. I don't drive hard but obviously I'm in an Evo and will want to go fast, do pulls, etc. I make enough to afford the costs! But thanks for the advice!
I applied at my bank for a car loan and got instantly approved because I had built up my credit for a year. I was able to get a decent rate and financed the whole thing. Bought the car when I was 19 and I just turned 21 last year. I can afford the payments without any problem and insurance too, but I think I should have waited a few months to get a decent down payment. Ill most likely pay it all off next year

I got hired into a well paying job a semester before I graduated from college with a MIS degree and then saved money up until graduation. I bought it as a present to myself for when I finished school.
