CAI or Exhaust?

Im on a limited budget, which would you get first- The CAI or the Exhaust?

I figure if you get the CAI, i can just put a performance muffler on untill i get enough for exhaust.

Which is easier/cheaper to install?

Cheaper - CAI

Easier - Exhaust

You're car will sound like it has an exhaust with a CAI on. Don't waste money on a performance muffler. Buy one or the other

Cheers,
Mark

Well the CAI will give you more HP then exhaust would. And with the CAI it doesn't require welding. Get the CAI. I have both and out of the two I'd say the CAI first.

Are there any downsides to the CAI?

Definately go CAI...I believe the reportred gains on it are about 17-18hp....the RA comes with a "sport tuned" exhuast already, adn to go with a new exhuast won't give you much at all...unless you went straight pipe, but that'd be more then a little environmentally unfriendly, and illegal...

wow, 17-18 hp?? Where did you get those numbers, dude?

That would be freaking awesome if we could get those gains!

In the Ralliart, the exhaust is 2 1/8"...so that's already pretty free-flowing. The intake is exactly the same as in all other lancers, so that's the main point of restriction. The CAI will be my first mod, as it should free up the most power.

Would snow have an effect on the CAI? I have no garage, so whenever it snows, its going to get on it. Would that waterlock the engine?

not unless it's immersed completely. Under normal conditions, it should be ok. Just stay away from puddles and standing water and stuff.

You are kidding around right?

Exhaust might get your 3 HP
CAI 7-8 HP

roughly 10 hp with them combined and that being generous.

Would snow on the front of the car be a bad thing with a CAI?

Ok, my numbers for the CAI came from a couple posting in the Ralliart forums....I can only find one of them where the guy claims that on an integra he got 18hp from CAI after dynoing.

But I've looked into it more and from the manufacturers, RPM, they claim 10hp gain from the CAI...

So basically compare 2-3 more hp from am exhuast, or 10 from a CAI...my vote is still CAI

I appolgize for the previous "misinformation"
