Daily drivability Vs. Race car
Daily drivability Vs. Race car
I am brand new to the site and wanted to get some honest feedback from all of you. I have messed around with the 4g63 in the past but not when it came to EVO 8 and 9's. I only have a simple question really...At what point of Hp do you loose the daily drivable of the car? I am looking to purchase an evo 8 or 9 next year. I hardly ever leave my cars "stock" for very long. I know that the motors are capable of around 400hp before you have to start digging into the internals or the engine, but i also don't want to worry about start up issues, ethanol fuel, and things just wearing out unusually often. I am going to be mainly be driving the car about 8 miles a day for work and some "spirited" driving on the weekends and the occasional date night car. I had an insanely modded R32 and it was just a nightmare to do anything with that required starting and stopping. I wanted to avoid that pain on my next build. Thank you in advance for all your feedback 😀.

Thank you so much, I was not sure exactly where to post so that why I posted in both...its been years since i have been apart of forum...it feels good to be back in an environment like this.
that's why i own an Outlander as daily drivability car, https://pharmacomlabs.to/ yet i just have registered to get myself an Evo (I think 9, but not sure, that's why I am here) to have a race car. IMO, 2 cars is the best way to go if you want to go daily AND race

It's always safer to have two cars if you plan on having some kind of modified "sports car." I have my Evo, subi and dsm but I also have a 2013 dodge avenger that's a daily/emergency car in case the others are down lol
I think I lost some drivability right around 450whp, when I went to larger injectors. Since then, the car has never started or cruised at low-speed very well. It's frustrating and keeps me from driving the car more. I've asked my tuner look everything over many, many times and we can't figure out how to fix it. It's not a mechanical issue, either, because it's done it with both engines and all setups, all injectors. The car just isn't happy unless it's being driven hard
If you TRULY want it super reliable and hassle free, I'd run stock everything and have it tuned as well as it can be, with your choice of fuel. The cars are overbuilt for that power level. It should last forever with a good tune. Or.. you can start building and making more power until it gets to a point you are uncomfortable, then dial it back? It's all up to your preference and patience LOL
Also, these cars can make far more than 400whp on stock internals. You just may not be happy with the lag and relatively low torque number, once you get to 500whp+
If you keep the car reasonable, like you are mentioning, you will have no problems daily driving and doing spirited drives. You don't need a race car for that stuff.

I have been thinking a lot about this. I think I am eventually going to find out but i think it’s kind of personal. When I was younger i was okay with daily driving a fully caged car with no interior. Now, not so much.
If you have a "winter" forget about e85 if you want the car to start reliably. Speed density tunes are a bit finicky, fortunately my tuner was able to get my car right so I have zero issues starting down to 20 degrees and maybe lower. Also, good luck with the date night. My wife told me when she first met me, she thought my car was just a loud POS. LOL.
