Unhappy Service Engine Light on @ 14,550 miles...Wut the heck?

Ok...I was driving to my girlfriends house and on the way I notice my "Service Engine Light" come on around 14,550 miles. Wut the heck caused this!? I know i'm due for Mitsubishi's recommended 15,000 mile check up...but does the CPU actually know when to signal off schedule maintenance? Drove about 40 miles later and it's still on.

I'm going all crazy and actually real worried, cuz I haven't had this problem before and this is my 2nd vehicle. I'm thinking all sorts of things in my head. I ran into a small puddle before I left, and I thought my CAI sucked in some water. Maybe it's my test pipe, the O2 sensor slipped out. I check the oil, and it was a fine. The car still runs fine, sounds fine. The only thing I can think of is spark plugs need to be changed since it's around 15,000 miles. I was thinking of doing that, but not this soon. Looks like I'm going to have to later today unless you guys think it's something else. Any suggestions on wut else it can be? How can i fix it! Help me out !

Drive to Auto Zone, in 2 minutes they will get your code and tell you for free. I did it and they were real cool in doing it.

that's probably what it is... i know a few friends who have perfectly running vehicles, but their check engine light is on because of exhaust or some ****... most likely some type of sensor or something along those lines... could be as simple as the car not recognizing or liking the super duper air flow or extra **** added on... get your guys to check out the extra's. not the dealership, of course. take it to a performance shop or a good company that specializes in that to have em check for the secureness or quality of installation.

thanks guys for all your help. I have a new found respect for AutoZone~! They're pimps . I went there today to get it scanned, for free (which was the coolest part)! It was the 02 Sensor in the test pipe! It was reading weak or something. I thought maybe the sensor got unscrewed loose a little and I'd find a way to get under the car to tighten it. But I went home parked my car and chilled for a little bit.

The weirdest part...I go back in my car, started it up and the SES light was gone. . I don't know how the hell that happened, but thank God it did. I was freakin out so bad. I hope this crap never happens again, well until I get my Kamikaze headers. LOL.
