Stick to what the manual said and change your oil after 600 miles, after that start driving your car the way it was meant to be driven.
Enjoy and drive safely...

<buzzkill>But don't be dissapointed if you see high oil comsumption until 10K miles or so.</buzzkill>

Some people (like me) have had high oil consumption breaking in the car with the factory fill Mobil 1. My oil consumption dropped dramatically after 9 or 10K miles.

I kept mine under 5k for 600 miles, then took it easy until about 1k but after about 700-800 i did a FEW runs up higher, but not under full load. Then changed the oil at 1k, then 3k, and then every 3000 miles since. Has not burned a drop of oil since it came off the lot.

i lost very little oil during break-in. i'll be changing my oil at 2500 miles, though now i wish i would've done it after break-in. all-well, no biggie.

and i followed the manual - 600 miles for my break-in.

enjoy your new toy!

I did my break-in for 1000 miles, gentle launch, oil and filter change after 1k miles. You just need to take it easy on the first 1k miles then after that, push it to the limits but not too fast. Enjoy!

I dont mean to hi-jack the thread, but I think this will help this guy out too since it refers to the break-in somewhat. I heard it is good to change the transmission fluid after 1k miles too, is this true? If so, also is there anything else that needs to be done?

My route:
under 5000rpm until 600
no sustained high speed until 3k
no high rpm launches until 3k
no double clutching until you replace the stock clutch
you should be groovy!

Welcome ... sit back, buckle up and enjoy the ride

do you guys get the oil change at the dealer or what? I'm very well capable of doing an oil change... I was just browsing through my manual and it says that my warranty covers my oil changes only at 5000 miles for each interval. What would you guys do? I only have 170 miles on my 04 black evo

I do all my oil changes myself. Just buy 5 qts of Mobile 1 (I use 5w30), and a Mitsu oil filter and do it yourself.

so basically change the oil myself and get it changed again when the dealer wants you to change it, which is at 5000 miles? Thanks,

The dealership that I use changes my oil, they do it for free as part of an owner loyalty thing. If it weren't for them, I'd do it; saves me the hassle of disposing of the used oil. I get it changed every 3,000 miles. I wasn't comfortable with going 5,000 between changes regardless of what the oil-experts tell me.

Yeah 5k is just too long, hell after 3k the oil is straight black. I just buy the 5gal jugs from Wal-Mart, then dump the used oil back into it. Then after 6 or so have stacked up, just make a run to AutoZone and dump it. Piece o' cake

Yeah, but would the dealer take your car if you want your oil changed at 3,000 miles?

Well, mine does; that does not mean that all would.
