Question What should be the first mods on an auto ES

What should be the first really good modifications on the 2002 auotmatic es model? In what order should thay go in, How easy is the instillation (perfer bolt on)? Should I get stabilizer bars or better brakes, intake, exhaust, Ect? From which manufactuer?

What are really good lubricantes or fluids, other than basic lubricants to pro-lond life and durability and make engine run smoother?

I have 16" BBS rims
Spoiler wing from 2003 model.

the high flow K&N air filter. it won't even void your warranty. it adds around 15 HP for around $70 and is guaranteed for the life of your car. (it eventually pays for itself by not having to buy regular filters).

well, first of all, it depends on what you want to do to your car. i don't think its worth going for speed on the lancer unless you are going to go all the way with turbo and stuff. some basic stuff on the outside are the lights, rims, or tint. that's the route i've seen on most cars. but i GAURENTEE outting on an air filter will not give you a 15 hp gain.....that was pretty amusing to read.

change of the filter will def not give you 15 HP. you be lucky if it were 2 or 3. But it all depends what you want to do. Performance first or Show First.
But what i did was get a custom exhaust done first, cant stand small tail pipes.
Do what you want though, your car.

welp..the air filter will give your car more fuel efficiency..so thats an added on..then you could go for handling upgrades(strut bar/sway bar) to help better your driving experience. you can get most of this stuff at http://www.roadracemotorsports.com/

Intake would be best mod to start with performance wise. Then exhaust. As for suspenssion look to upgrade the car to OZ specs. Add swaybar at least and perhaps springs and shocks. It all depends on where your emphasis is.

Redundancy must be a virtue with you. If you're anything like me you'd start from the ground up. You've got wheels and hopefully nice donuts, you could upgrade the suspension with Tein or JIC then the other handling tidbits then you could make the car go fast with bolt ons starting from the intake side and working your way to the exhaust...there is a parts page for a reason.

I have that filter as well and I can tell you that you're exaggerating immensely. 15 HP to the crank is hard enough for a full blown CAI, let alone a drop-in and 15 HP to wheels is practically impossible if not completely with any sort of intake ('cept for perhaps big displacement and turbo monsters). The panel filter is nice in that yes, it's cleanable and frees up the flow a bit but it's more of a practical mod in the sense that it doesn't need replacing and of course, the cool sticker.

well... since i'm a standard trany guy... and you got an auto... i'd say that is a minus for you if you wanted to have some performance. In your case, I'd go for show though...

Id go with the Injen Cold Air Intake, 2.25" Cat-Back Exhaust, RRM Test Pipe to start with.

Thanks, BD. Love the pic.

I'm with Rob on this one. Intake and exhaust will give you the most noticable difference with the least amount of mods and you can easily do both yourself. Strut tower bar then springs and/or sway bar would be next in my opinion because bolt ons aren't going to get you terribly far, but they will change how your car feels when you accelerate and drive in general (not terribly drastically, but you'll notice the difference). If you can afford more than springs I'd consider complete coilovers.

The important thing is that you know your goals for the car and build in an order that's logical and beneficial to you. Good luck.

EDIT: As for the plastic "governor" under the gas pedal...removing it won't really benefit you unless you think it's ugly or in the way. The ECU is the thing that limits both revs and top speed.
