Post MR VS. EVO VIII and purchasing

What is the main differences between the 2004 Evolution VIII and the MR?
I might not be able to get the new MR. So my question is if I should just get an Evo VIII instead.

This is the problem:
I will be buying a new car in March and i am looking to buy either the mitsubishi Evolution VIII or the MR. The problem with the MR is that there are not that many made and i am not sure if I will be able to attain one in March. I hear that everyone has to pre-order their cars from the dealer and that the dealer only has 3 or less MRs to sell.

Would I still be able to get an MR in march or am I better off to just get an Evo 8?
Can I put a down payment on the MR now and pick up the car in March and pay the full balance then or must I pay the full price when the dealer getsthe car in....can I put a deposit to hold the car then in march pick it up and pay the full amount.

Thanks a lot gys

This has been discussed quite a few times on the forums. If you do a basic search, you should be able to find out a lot of info on MR vs. regular Evo.

Personally it really depends on what you will ultimately do with the car. If it was me, I'd be getting an RS with AC, throw some mods on it, and still end up having spent le$$ than an MR but own a faster car.

follow the link (see the evom homepage) to the official '05 spec sheet. if you're buying in mar-05, it's an '05 you're gonna want, not an '04. the '05 evo viii has most of the same upgrades as an MR.

I definitely agree that the RS is the one to have for performance.

Sorry I meant the difference between the 2005 Evo and the 2005 MR
Are there going to be more 2005 Evo 8s then MRs?
What is the price difference between the two?

Can anyone post some info on the 2005 Evo 8??

One last question what is the difference between the RS and the normal evo 8?
Which is best? (fastest 0-60...etc..)

At this point your best bet is to search. There are huge threads on the different 2005 models. This press release should start you off though.

In a nutshell, the MR will have a slightly larger turbo (a little bit more power) and a better suspension. The better suspension being relative, since the standard suspension on an
Evo is already excellent.

Don't beleve what everybody tells you.

Give it some time for the intial hype to blow over, they'll be plenty to go around.

The only thing I'd really want in my car is the aluminium roof, and perhaps a JDM-spec RS super close ratio gearbox.

That's it! I don't want any other option. I don't want ACD/AYC. I don't want the 6-speed. I don't want the fancy suspension and wheel. I don't want the wing. I'll keep the intercooler spray over the ACD/AYC packaging.

But that's just me. For me, I had to choose between an '04 or an '05 RS. Looking back, I'm very happy with my choice.

I don't want to trade my intercooler spray for the ACD/AYC, although it would be nice to have the roof and a slightly more high strung engine from the factory.

But overall, I'm very happy with my choice. Most people will not notice a difference in the performance. It's more like something to say that you have, but will never actually be able to use.

The 05's all have the same turbo set up. Power will not be different from a GSR to a MR. It is all about some weight savings, a 6speed, BBS wheels, and the Bilstein suspension system. Otherwise they will be almost identical. The real question is wether or not you want to pay for those additions. As for availability, while there will be a limited # of MR's I think you will still be able to pick one up. Remember that there is a limited market for a 33-35k Mitsu. Even with limited production runs you should still be able to pick one up, besides Mitsu is not going to send all the cars at one time. They will spread out the deliveries over a longer period of time to keep supply behind demand. I think that you will still see MR's hitting stores well after March.

...the '05 will have the larger titanium turbo (aka TD05HRA-16G6-10.5T)?? Hmm, I'm gonna have to research this one... Thanks for the heads-up.
