Questions to those who pimp rides...

What up... i have a brand new lancer im looking to hook up, and I had a few questions....
1) Whats an adequate size enclosure that can fit in a Lancer ES for two 12" subs, and how do you make one with a plexiglass window?

2) What size amp would i need to power 2 400w RMS dual 4ohm voice coils from audiobahn?

3) Bodykits.com has a phat evo conversion kit by accolade, and i was wondering if anyone knew what the retail price on it was for the full kit?

Thanks for your help... and I love my new lancer, the car drives like a champ... wish i had bought one sooner.

the box size is best to get from the manufacturer of the subs they have tested their product more than anyone else has so that would be your best source for that for the amp if you run an 800 monoblock amp to your subs have the voice coils set in parallel and then the two subs in series the amp will see 4 ohms which is what most amps run best off of (unless the amp spacifically says it runs lower) I prefer JL ams for good quality sound and clear signal if you just want bass then almost any amp will work. Make sure not to confuse RMS with Peak watts. And use good quality conectors and wires that are made for running the power you will be pushing. And of course get a good deck and other speakers and amps for the rest of your car (no brainer).

The manufacturer specified box size isn't always best. The proper box size really depends on what the end-user has planned for the system. For example, someone interested in a very tight, punchy system would generally want a smaller box than someone interested in a ghetto banging system. Many major market manufacturers don't take into account the tastes of the end user, and just list off a box that will satisfy the general public. Manufacturer sealed boxes are usually listed too small, and porteds tuned horribly... and bandpass... hell, if they even give you an idea on a bandpass... blech.

Your best bet for designing a well rounded enclosure is to get yourself a program like WinISD (www.linearteam.org) and have at some designs. Play around with the box size, and the tuning. Then, go out and build it. As for a window, if this is your first box... Dont. You'll have enough leaks to deal with without a window being another.

As for your amp situation, a large D series amp, say 1000w or so, (these can be had cheap) made by a reputable company, (see also: names you've heard before like JBL, JL, etc.) will give you a little something called "headroom". More power than you need is a good thing. Being stupid with the power... well that just means you'll need more speakers. "With great power, comes great responsibility" (Set your gains properly, and you'll never have a problem)

Thats true different types of music would have an impact on box size. Manufacturers size is probably going to be a middle ground. I listen to all types of music so I don't want my box biased to small or too large so I went with this "middle ground". I can tell you my subs sound awesome box size was perfect for everything I use it for Its tightly sealed and has very crisp clear sound and still able to hit high output levels for rap or hip hop music.

Headroom is nice to have if your planning on upgrading your system. You don't want to underpower subs it will greatly reduce their output level and sound quality level. but on the other side of things if you go more than the RMS level they are rated at you take the risk of blowing one out so adjust gains accordingly.

Techsport is about 975.
Techsport front end conversion is like 325.
Techsport front end conversion CF is like 575.
GT Extreme is about 975.

GT Extreme front end conversion CF is like 575.

This is a rough estimate and maynot be correct, Dave@accolade will give you a direct quote. Also, it is www.body-kit.com not www.bodykits.com (<-- wrong site).

For the most part, you blow a sub (cook a coil) from heat...which usually comes from an inefficient sub or amp and a fair amount of distortion...

Overpowering speakers/subs is a good thing....

For example, I have 1500W to my JL 10W3v2...and 250W each to my JL XR 650 (6.5" coaxes)...that's RMS, not peak or any of that BS...btw the sub is rated at 250...so that's something to compare with.

Good thing JL can handle a lot more than its rated at. Not all subs are quite that good of quality. Also depends on music style and how good your CD's are because Radio does have a lot of distortion due to bad signal in some places and scratches on a cd can be big problems when overpowering that much. Nice choice on the JL system but I would be careful with that much power to it.

Heh, Yeah, I'm nice to the system...I set my gains properly...as long as I dont start distorting **** when its this much power, I should be fine...

If I blow anything, it's an excuse to upgrade (it all will be soon anyways)
