Thinking of buying an EVO. . have some Qs.
What up all? Florida here.
Just curious on how you guys are enjoying your EVO? I totalled my car about a week ago and they gave me 10 grand for it so I'm undecided whether to go with the EVO (which I like a lot) or an IS300 which I do like and know the quality is there.
Guess my question is how you like your EVO's and how hard they are to maintain? I was talking to the dealership and they said it's kind of a ***** to maintain otherwise it will break. I did an insurance quote and the EVO actually came out cheaper then a Lexus even though the EVO has 60+ HP more.
Also, do you guys have any help on maybe how to bull**** the dealers on to getting a lower price and what the ball park is for buying most of your EVO's? Also, do you guys prefer the 03 or 04 model? Is there much difference? And was kind of curious if you guys think it would be safe to buy a used one...? Appreciate it.

maintaining any sportscar is not cheap, unless you never drive it
as for is300, my friend has it and its damn boring... it really feels like a v6 leather accord... your really paying for the lexus brand name, which i think is majorly retarded....for the same money you can buy a v6 accord stick with full options and still have money left over for minor boltons...

I think they worked out some of the bugs in the 04 model that the 03 owners were having probs with. As far as used, LOTS of people on this board are selling theirs....alot of nice cars with some add ons. I'd get the evo if you are more expectant of power.
i got an evo. and no they aren't hard to maintain.. just like your average car ( thats just my opinion... but ummm your def getting more with an evo then you are with an is300. such as suspension. power, and i assume you want to mod you car. the modding potential on an evo is just sick... i say go evo
it was between an IS300 and Evo for me too. You can tell which one I went with. You can't beat Lexus quality, but for me it came down to these factors: Insurance was cheaper, better gas mileage, AWD vs RWD(I live in Minnesota), and chicks dig EVO's
.
I recommend you wait till the end of the month. I got mine for 29500, fully loaded. If you do decide to buy an IS300 though, I suggest you go through carsdirect.com and buy it from a Southern California dealer and have it shipped. You'll save about $2000.

Honestly, If you buy and evo and complain about having to maintain it then it isnt the car for you. Driving my Evo has been more than a thrill and maintaining and modding it, to me, is part of the fun. I know a few people with IS300s and like stated before, they are no fun. Drive the IS300 with its 215 crank hp rwd and see how it feels, then drive the evo 271 hp (230-240 awhp) all wheel drive and see which you have more fun in. Yeah you have to maintain a turbo charged beast. But like i said if you arent willing to maintain something thats more fun than a barrell of monkeys to drive, then buy the lexus.
i think maintiance comes with how you drive a car.
you throw sticky tires into some corners, youll go thru tires
you drop your clutch and drag race, youll need a clutch
the original owner of the one i had said he averaged about 160 miles a tank
i can do 300 and i still enjoy every bit of it when i want to.
just because you have it doesnt mean you have to use it.

Here are the logics:
If you drive the EVO like you drive the Lexus then the EVO is cheaper in maintenance.
If you drive the EVO like you drive it then the EVO cost a little more to maintenance.
If you drive the Lexus like you drive the EVO then... Invalid logic, you cannot drive the Lexus like driving the EVO.

most of the maintenance that costs alot of money on the EVO is self enduced. You do 6k clutch dumps your going to need a new clutch or transmission or even a tcase. Other then pads, tires, and maybe the odd case rotors its still isn't that bad. i'm on a 25k salary, with car payments, i have no trouble with the wear and tear problems.
